Grass in paved driveway

I am tired of weed eating down the edges of my 180' long paved driveway. Grass keeps trying to force its way up thru the pavement at the edges. I spray Roundup three or four times a year and I want to quit using as much of that stuff. This morning I noticed two boxes of rock salt for making ice cream in the garage. Would it work to mix up a thin slurry with the rock salt and pour it down the edges of my driveway? It would be a line about two inches wide from the pavement out. I know this would kill anything trying to spread thru the ground. Has anybody tried this?
