So it the extra cost worth it to get two fingers on the grapple bucket?

Where does it come in handy?

My two cents- I have a Wildkat 48" which is a single-works fine. However for some work, you loose a little productivity. for example I was loading some big diameter pine that was cut into say 18-24 lengths and stacked. with a single, if you grab a stack, the full width stops at the longest piece. Consequently, you tend to loose some of your load.

Yes it is worth it. Irregular loads like brush or trash make it ideal.

It depends what you'll be using it for. I have the 2 arm grapple from WR Long and I don't think I can pick up anymore brush than a single arm like the one Red Horse has.

You do not need two grapple arms. However, I do a lot of work with firewood cut into stove length pieces and I do feel that I can hold more on the grapple. Also, if picking up things like smaller stumps you may be able to get more of a load into the two arm setup. You can also drag two full length trees to a landing area if the stumps are still attached (small trees and be careful because you can bend things).

A single arm grapple will weigh less and is no less capable, so you can lift more with the same loader. You can do just as much with a single arm grapple as you can with a two arm, however there are a few situations where the two arm will get the work done faster and more efficiently.

HOWEVER, if you plan to dig up stumps and trees you will be able to dig better with the narrower grapple, so keep that in mind.

If you are planning on lifting a lot of items that are at the top end of your lift capacity, get the single arm. If you aren't, then the two arm may be better, but the bottom line is, either one will do what you want. There are slight advantages and slight disadvantages to each.

What are your main goals and uses for the new grapple? By the way, whichever one you get, you will absolutely LOVE.

You only have one thumb on each hand don't you. :D All kidding aside I can see where they may have a use for irregular loads.

He's referring to them as "fingers" according to the title of this thread, therefor, according to your logic, he should have FIVE! :D

Just kidding

I see two advantages to having two grapples. Irregular loads and I find the grapple is easier to see offset to each side vs centered.

Thanks for the comments.

I plan to use it mainly in the clean up after cutting firewood. So moving the branches and the trunk of the trees. Then to move around the cut firewood afterwards.

I do see some land clearing in the future so I would expect some use for digging up roots and stumps but that won't be it's primary role.

I've been making due with pallet forks to move my 8ft logs... does ok but still drop a few if I don't line up right.

I've also debated just adding a thumb to my forks/bucket for the time being until funds can be saved for a proper grapple.

Kilo,
Based on your primary uses, I think you are a good candidate for the wider grapple with two arms. However, I still don't know what your lifting capacity is, so that could be an issue if you have a smaller tractor.

Firewood is where I really notice a savings in time with having the wider grapple. Of course, if your only moving it a short distance it isn't much of a big deal, just take a couple more trips, but if your like me and move it a larger distance, then it does save time.
