Granny had a Beverly Hills cookbook

Possum is pretty easy to come by; just cruise one of our well traveled streets on a Friday night, and there are usually a lot of them at the side of the road, along with raccoons and the occasional deer. Buzzard wings are harder to come by...and from the testimonials from those that have killed buzzards, it's a good thing that chicken wings can be substituted.
Possum I have had. Buzzard wings I know nothing about. My great-grandfather used to catch them and keep them in a pen & feed them corn for a couple weeks - to clean them out before serving. Usually baked and surrounded by sweet potatoes. It was not terrible is about all I remember about them.

Are you serious? I never even imagined anyone would eat a buzzard...but what do I know?

I've probably posted this before, but possum is one of the few critters I've never eaten. My mother said when they hadn't been married long, dad brought in a possum for her to cook. He had skinned and gutted it, but the mistake he made was skinning it out right over the head and then he had not cut the hear off, or everything probably would have been fine. Mother said that head looked like it was just grinning at her and she refused to touch it, made dad through it away. I always heard that possum was good eating; just a mite greasy.

Possum, not buzzard. My orientation of data must have confused you - maybe me too after reading over it. Only the Darlings would try that along with hoot owl pie LOL

I am going to have to get to some of your recent recipe posts - they sound pretty tasty.

...Possum, not buzzard...

No offense to anyone (possum saved many people from going hungry at times) I'd probably eat possum over dog if it came down to it...BUT...

other than feathers and one being able to fly...is there that much difference? :D

I have eaten possum when I was in grade school. At that time we lived in a small town in Eastern Oklahoma. Mom and I were over at our neighbors and they offered mom a bite of their "roast". I took a couple bites too; it was swimming in grease an it looked like pulled pork. Don't remember anything outstanding except it passed for pork and was greasy. Once was enough.

Thank you. I only post my tried and tested recipes, and I have several more. FWIW, on the other tractor site, there is a cook book with recipes from the members. I have several recipes in there.
