I would get a grapple slightly wider than your tractor if using it to clear land and keep things from hitting your tractor. Like markie61 said I like my implements wider than my tractor.
With the qualifier that this is my first grapple: The speed is a function of hydraulic flow and, therefore, a function of RPMs. Most loader work I'm doing is at 2000rpms which makes the entire loader - boom, roll, 3rd function - work faster. I wouldn't says it "slams" shut or open, but it's pretty close - it jars the tractor mildly when it reaches its limits; fast enough for me....in the YouTube videos I watched, it looks like the grapple is very slow. Have you guys had any complaints on that?
