After visiting the local Kubota dealer and looking at the air seat on one of the M models, I am seriously considering going with a Grammer. I remember sometime back someone (think it was 4 Shorts) had posted an excellent thread with pics about modifying the seat pan on the L. Doing a search, I found his posts, but the photobucket pics were removed for some reason. After a lot of searching, decided to try a shortcut- wondering if someone could direct me to a similar thread that has pics, or if anyone knows if an air seat is available that would be a bolt in, not requiring seat pan modification.

Parts gal quoted me $1400+ for the replacement seat of an M model, & tomorrow (Monday) is going to check to see if Kubota offers an air seat that would be a bolt in for my 2013 L4740. I can get the same seat online for around $1000, and even found a Grimmer base for $625, which might be a better option, using my present seat cushions.

Any help, thoughts, advice, would be appreciated,
Thanks

Hello Triple R
The modification shown on the youtube link (post #48) is what I was looking for! That guy cut his pan, and leveled it by lowering the back, while others added a seat pan from the M series, which raised the front. I'm curious if one way is any better than the other as far as keeping the seat position as close to stock as possible.
Thanks again.

I had a bracket made to spread the mounting holes on my L3700 to accept a Michigan suspension seat. It was simple to design, cost me around a hundred dollars and worked like a champ. If overall height, width and depth of any seat is compatible with your tractor station, I can't see adapting to its mounting system as being much of a problem.

Bracket - $100. Seat - $325 Value - $10,000

The stock seat provided on an L3700 (SU) is not much to sit on!

The one with the modified pan is the one I am going with. It is beyond my ability, so I will be using the plans from 4shorts and the work is going to be done by another member who lives close by and uses the same process. My son is also a welder and will help him and hopefully learn the process. We don't have a metal shear so we will be using a plasma cutter.

4shorts and DDT used different seat models, the MSG75 SERIES is a low profile seat while the MSG93 SERIES is not, so I am not sure which approach is "best". I know nothing about all this stuff so I relied on 4shorts and mrmetalweld57 for guidance and they were exceptionally helpful, never could have done it on my own.

The seat that DDT used is considered a fork lift seat. It's a much lower profile than the seat I went with. The seat I used was the closest to the orginal I could find after doing many hours of research. The new seat is the same height as the original but the problem is the grand l floor pan. The floor pan is on a sloap and the seat requires a level base so that's why I designed, fabricated and modified the floor pan. If you were to use the same seat I used and just plate over the floor pan and lay that seat on it you would be hitting your head on the ceiling.

So choices are.
Low profile seat = plate over floor pan
Seat like I used that closely matches the original = modifying floor pan.

I did the video to show how its done. It's not hard to do.

Hey Paul, is that seat plate something you would sell or fabricate from your shop? I'd love that seat in my 5740..

The orginal seat plate is over $300. according to our local dealer so to buy one and modify it would be expensive but if someone were to send me their existing seat pan I could do the modifacation and send it back painted and ready to install. The turnaround would be fast because id do the modification the same day the seat pan arrived and ship it out the next day. The only thing left to do would be to drill four holes and bolt your new seat in.

Out of all the mods I've done with both our tractors when it comes to my personal health this seat is the absolute best and #1 in my opinion.
If I hadn't figured out a way to add the air ride seat the 5740 was going to be sold and I'd be in another brand tractor.
I spent three heavenly hours in the machine the last few weeks and it was soooooo comfy :D
