Looking for ideas or plans for grain storage, I have been looking for a small silo for quite a while but not any available in my area. Thinking of building a hopper capable of hold 4-5 tons.Minimum delivery is 3 tons to get the best pricing, quite a bit less than picking up 2000 lb totes.
Has anyone built one, or have any other ideas.
I am thinking steel, possibly wood
Thanks

Check out the USDA's Midwest Farm Plans.

They have what you are looking for with engineered drawings and cutting lists and everything. They have a 10 ton one made out of wood. Most of the plans are downloadable and free.

There's still a shed on our family farm that once had a three foot high wall partitioning off the far end. It had strips nailed over the cracks between the floorboards to prevent the oats that were fed to the horses and mules from falling through. The inside walls were sealed too. We call it the oat house.

Ours is long gone, but as kids we call ours the rat house.

OK then I cant help. I have property in north Georgia and have seen a small silo laying on it side on the ground along the road between towns there. I told my wife someday I am going to stop and ask if it is for sale. But I have no use for it. just like some who put a wind mill in the yard. I need a decoration / yard ornament.

What exactly are you planning on storing? For how long? How will you be using it?

Ground feed is susceptible to spoiling. Long term grains may need air.
