2006 Kubota 4330
After pricing the Kubota diesel lawnmowers, I am wondering if for a few bucks more I should go with a BX tractor. I have a 4330 that is a bit too heavy for the lawn (ruts when wet). But my current riding mower has a nasty habit of getting stuck where my lawn is not level. Is the BX overkill for a lawn mower? I was impressed with the dealer pitch for the GR but after reading some of the posts about the rear end I am concerned. Also, the dealer did not convince me that the front wheels would pull me out of the rough areas. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Guy

I bought the BX22 for my tractor and mower when we lived on a smaller piece of property. I have about 325 hours on it, probably 175 of that mowing. It is a fantastic mower and you have options galore for the future. I kept my BX22 for many reasons, but mowing is one of the main ones. I have a 42" tiller that is all I need for gardening and the light weight/small size of the BX makes it great for gardens. The tractor/loader is much easier to use in close-in areas than the larger units, so I still use the loader often. In my case my oldest son is a great tractor operator, so we use both tractors together on various projects. Of course, having the backhoe (small, but all I need) is a plus with the BX22. I guess my point is, if you have future needs for implements (tiller, for example), but don't necessarily need large implements, the smaller ones for the BX would be less expensive and offer a smaller tractor/implement combo that can be easier to use.

If you are using it just as a lawn mower , the gr will be far more manoeuvrable and easy to opperate if you have any tight area,s to mow. As far as the front wheel,s not helping much , my gr will go any place my 4wd tracter will go,it just will not tear up the turf like the tractor does.

I haven't used the GR, so can't compare. The BX (especially with the turf tires on) is very easy on the grass. The BX (without loader on) is no heavier than a zero-turn Kubota. If I have areas that are too tight for the BX, I'd probably be push mowing/trimming those areas rather than using any rider.

I have almost 200 hours on my BX now and have to say that I am constantly impressed with the toughness, power, and manuverability of this sub-cut. You will be able to use the BX for chores other than just mowing your lawn. Should you opt for the BX you won't regret it.

If you could find a leftover or used BX1500 somewhere, you could have a great mower and a bit of versatility if you decided you needed to do some light duty work with FEL and light duty 3ph attachments.

If you know you will NEVER do ANYTHING except MOW, I would recommend going with a really good quality ZTR or Front Mower (On Kubota web site, see F series and ZD/ZG series).

I'll agree with Tom. Unless you have some kind of terrain where a Zero-turn would not work, one of them would be my choice. It sounds like with a 4330 you have all the tractor you need.

"Is the BX overkill for a lawn mower? I was impressed with the dealer pitch for the GR but after reading some of the posts about the rear end I am concerned. " GuyL the BX2230 I have with R1 tires is great on lawns. I make my wife keep the 60" MMM in the green while I trim the ruff off the corners with a ZD21. We honestly knock out 2.5 acres in less than two hours with a great looking old fashioned alternate windrowing method to prevent dead spots in the lawn. We bag over two acres in the front yard G2160-R48S and dump it the bucket of our M9540 for "Golden Brown" mulch we recycle for tree, plants and riverbank protection. The GR2100 scares me with all the warranties Kubotas paid out to customers. Wait on this model a few years if it survives. Nice idea but too much power loss for me just to cut corners closer and with the glide steer angles coming off a 30 degree incline could get out of hand real quick and flip you over if you cut too sharp in a decent.
The TG1860 was the best trim tractor I've ever owned and wish I had never traded it in on a 40" gas unit. Yes, I was nuts the day I did that.

I have a BX1500, with LA181 FEL, 48" MMM and a 48" box blade, 74 hours, one owner. $8,250.00.

Always kept in the barn. Only mowed about 5 acres total. Mainly used the loader and box blade.

Just got a contract signed on 47 acres. I will be getting a larger tractor.

Let me know if you are interested.....
