Everyone was given a brain to be able to think. Some people use that brain and consider their actions and work or play safely. Some of the others, those that should win a Darwin award are either stupid or can't consider what may happen by their dangerous actions. Some have an attitude that if they get hurt they will get one of those as I call them buzzard lawyers (they are always feeding on dead prey) to attempt to win a huge monetary award.

With all the mandated bilingual safety labels that are plastered all over anything that is sold today, there is no reason that anyone should be hurt or killed by any product.

The government can make laws that can protect everyone in every situation, but that does not mean those laws will be obeyed. Government should protect people but not rule them. If you cannot comprehend the dangers of what you are doing or the product you are using then don't!!

As has been said many times before engage brain before any actions. But what do you do if you have no brain? Then you do stupid acts, and get hurt or killed by those stupid acts. (See buzzard lawyer above)

The biggest problem I see is Common Sense isn't common anymore.

Reminds me of a woman driving her motor home down the highway. She set it on cruise and went to the back to make a sandwich. The motor home ran off the highway and crashed. She sued the manufacturer and ----won a new motor home. Why? There was no warning decal on the dash that the seat was to be occupied while cruise control was engaged and the motor home was not self driving!!

Another issue is the "over-labeling" that has become common. If the are one or two warning labels you are more inclined to notice and take heed. But once there are a dozen warning labels that are absolutely ridiculous you may miss a legit warning. Same goes for operating manuals. The first 20 pages are inane warnings ("Do NOT drink the battery acid") type warnings to get to one or two pages of actual useful information on how to properly use the item.

Time to get couple of these NATO type jerry cans while you still can.

They will last a lifetime and then some however they are not cheapest to buy initially - easy to find online, starting at about $40 - 50 each.

Another Darwin award.

One fellow, slightly tipsy, was determined to eliminate a racoon from his property, followed the racoon into a cave as he carried a can of gas and a lighter. A few moments later a huge explosion occurred---the fellow flew out of the cave over the house and landed in the front yard yelling "Yahooooooooooo" Upon landing picked himself up and said, "Man I gotta do that again!"

He disqualified himself from the Darwin Award the moment he picked himself up.
Let's hope he was successful with his second attempt!

We evidently need another law passed! Don't you think?

I would go for a law titled "Natural Selection" that says the government needs to get out of the business of trying to save everyone.

Most people know that you can't fix stupid. You can tell some people dozens of times something is not safe, and they seem to go out of thier way to prove you right.
Years ago most people knew you could not fix stupid. Today those who know this are in the minority. Years ago people would say you know what that dumb A** did he poured gasoline on an open flame and got burned which caused him to die.

Today if the same person did the same thing, everybody starts hollering the government should do something. They need to sue the gas station for selling him the gasoline. They need to sue the can manufacture for being able to sell a can to hold gas that allows one to readily pour gasoline on a open fire. The Government need to step in and regulate can manufactures and enact laws making it unlawful to manufacture a container to hold gasoline that allows someone to readily pour gasoline on a open fire. SO......... Look what we got.

Actually if the explosion was strong enough to blow him out of the cave and over a house he never got up again, the sudden stop killed him. Only in the movies does something like that happen.

The problem with "stupid should hurt" is that it often hurts an innocent bystander.

Bruce
Then the person responsible should be held strongly accountable. With enough penalty for doing stupid things that harm others eventually stupid things will be reduced. And that method doesn't make the other 99.99% of folks have to accommodate the dumb ones.

The government shouldn't take action. The person making the bad decision should be responsible for their actions. And society & parents should take responsibility to educate people well enough to not have that happen in the first place. 99.99% of people shouldn't have to suffer with hamstrung products because 0.01% are dumb.
You have under estimated the "Dumb-Stupid" ones.

What percentage of Americans have an intellectual disability?

What is Intellectual Disability?

Approximately 6.5 million people in the United States have an intellectual disability. Approximately 1 – 3 percent of the global population has an intellectual disability—as many as 200 million people. Intellectual disability is significantly more common in low-income countries—16.41 in every 1000 people.
