Knowing a guy in the business, the price is determined by what they think you can afford. He flat out told me.

Ours had price lists already printed. Mom died at 4:30 am and we were casket shopping at 8:00.

They did tell us there is a wide price range, and there was. Everything from a couple hundred dollars particle board box to $10K + . Kinda shocking to think someone would want to pay $10K for a box that's gonna be buried, and knowing what happens to a corpse in a sealed box.... all the liquids. Blech.

However, some folks want to do that big send off and that's fine. Whatever helps to ease them through the loss of a loved one. Just not our cup of tea.

I believe casket sales people are the worst 'upsells' out there.
Sure rank them above used car salesman.

That may be at some funeral homes, but when my mother and father passed away, we were not pressured at all. They gave us a price list and left us alone to decide.
It's a family run business, and has been there for over 100 years.

That was my experience as well, also with an old firm in a small town.

My father in-law passed away a year ago November. My mother in-law had prearranged everything years before that. Their family uses a different funeral home than my family, however, both are family owned and fantastic (although theirs uses the pink meat lights). Even with it being during the pandemic, they came and got the body, took care of everything, gave us the boards to post pictures for the viewing, picked up and delivered items for weeks and months afterwards, and coordinated the installation of my father in-law's headstone and the veteran plaque on the backside of the stone.

I couldn't thank them enough for bending over backwards to make it as painless as possible for my mother in-law.

I guess they could also make caskets out of those wind turbine blades. Archeologist in 10,000 years will be amazed at the preservations of the bodies? Lol! A playground on every block with a bridge to it would still only use a fraction of what needs to be disposed of or recycled.

Wind turbine blades are recyclable.
General Electric can shred the blades and use the "mulch" to replace raw materials for concrete.

True. Don't even think that when a plant gets moth balled and eventually shut down that it is torn down and scrapped. They are almost all sold to China.
