Bought a used 2006 ford f-150 one owner with the 5.4 triton motor back in 2012 with 40,000 miles on the OD.I have to say WORST pickup truck I ever owned in my lifetime BAR NONE.I know every car/truck maker has a turd every now and then BUT this truck was a total POS.Had all maintenance done that was required and then some.At 169,000 miles I got rid of it,told the purchaser it was a turd and sold it as is at a very low price.Body was great but the rest of the truck god awful.Put over $11,000 in repairs.Pic of the truck the day I sold it..Purchased a used 2009 ford explorer 6 cly. engine with 82,000 miles from original owner in there early 70,s looks to be well maintained. My fingers are crossed this time around.

Wow, you put 130,000 miles on it in 6 years. That’s some impressive mileage! I know the 5.4 had a wide range of quality as they improved things over the years.

Was working part time as electric lineman contractor. Most of the miles were highway miles to boot.Been a big ford fan for many years but this one was the worst of the bunch..

I had a Dakota like that... it was a "certified used auto" so I didn't look it over as well as I should have. I paid $7500 for it in 1999 and spent that much again in a year and a half before getting $1000 in trade toward a Toyota. The used car warrantee is only as good as the dealer... they gumped it together just good enough to sell it and when things started acting up told me that the tapping in the engine was the fuel injectors, and it was normal for it to slip when going into third gear. That truck was so bad that if I was working out of town I would call the garage first to make sure that their wrecker was available if I broke down. As near as I can tell the previous owner did NO scheduled maintenance; when the timing chain went it trashed the entire top end just like some timing belts. Two brand new -not rebuilt- Dodge transmissions, two or three fuel pumps, and miscellaneous other things.
At the time I could have bought a brand new Ford Ranger 4x4 for what I dumped into that pos.

Are you talking 4.6 & 5.0 engines ? Had a 4.6 in our lincoln town car no issues. I believe the 5.4 triton engines are not in that category.Owned 300-6cly.and 302 motors back in the day that were bullet proof.

I'm talking about the later model V8's that have the huge heads with 32 valves.
