First you cut...

Then you collect and hang the shocks to dry for a few weeks...

Then make a quick trip to the neighborhood Kubota kiosk for hulling...

It'll do 20 pounds for about $1. Gozinta on the right, gozouta on the left...

Of course, this all a bit of work, so it might be easier just to buy retail. Open 24 hours, self service...

That works out to about $1.25/lb. Maybe you want to think again about that wet spot in the field!

Yes, a long way from Vermont indeed. These were taken across the street from our apartment here near Nagasaki, on Kyushu in Japan.

Now they make sense. Were you over there on business, vacation, or both? I bet it was pretty cool. Hi Gary,

I signed up for a 9-month tour in Japan working at Sony here in Kyushu. The family came along too, so we're all turning Japanese. I did take some beginner classes in the language before we left, so I can order a beer and then thank the bartender, but not much more.

Last weekend the local rice harvest began, so I thought some of the TBN crew might like a few pics.
