Hi All,
First, I want to thank everyone here for the great information on the site. This is my first post, but I lurked around a bit while deciding on a tractor. We moved to an 11 acre horse property last spring and bought a John Deere 3025e. It was a good machine and handled most of what we did with it (mowing, manure spreading, snow removal etc.), but it just didn't have anywhere near enough juice to move the 1,700lb hay bales we are working with now. We considered another Deere, but to get something comparable to the LS was another $15K or so. We got the XR4140C, 14,000lb GVW trailer, auger, 5' rotary mower, 6' blade, FEL, pallet forks and bale spear for $36K. Looks like we could have saved some money if we were willing to go out of state, but we're happy with it value wise compared to the better known competition. We did go with the shuttle shift which I hopefully won't regret - so far so good after about 10 hours of use. I can see where the hydrostatic is better for tight areas, especially tight FEL work, but the range of gearing on the shuttle shift should help- 1:1 is pretty darn slow and controlled. Having a cab is a game changer! I rigged up a Bluetooth speaker and just stream music from my phone and am looking forward to the first snow when I can go plow. Our neighbor has a similar sized Kubota and recommended that we look at LS and I'm glad he did. Looking forward to contributing to the community here and learning more about these machines with all of you.
Happy trails
