I put the blower in last night and boy what a difference moving the heat around the house.

Nice!
I have our woodburning stove in a room in the basement. It was the only convenient place to install it. I have a portable greenhouse thermostat like this

mounted between the ceiling joists in the middle of the room. I have a 6" metal duct above the stove with a high temperature in-line booster fan, that outlets in the center of the house on the first floor.

I have the thermostat set for cooling at 78 degrees.
So when the woodburner heats the room up to 78, the booster fan kicks on and moves the heat upstairs. When the fire goes out, several hours later the room cools to 75 or so and the booster fan shuts off, so cold air is not pumped upstairs.

One could use this setup for a variety of fan applications to move or circulate air.

Thanks. The neat thing about that thermostat is you can wire it for cooling OR heating. Seems strange, but I have it wired for cooling to heat my house. It cools off the room with the woodburner by moving the heat elsewhere. Some day, some day, we'll have a house where we can put a nice insert in a fieldstone fireplace, or a nice woodburner in a corner with fieldstone walls.

My goal was to cut our gas usage in half. We did it by well over 60%. We have gas hot water, stove and clothes dryer, so I can only do so much. But the whole stove, chimney and installation paid for itself after 4.5 years. Its been free since then (if you don't value your time gathering firewood!!)

We have no problem keeping the whole house above 70 when its 20 outside. And our house is not insulated very well at all.

That is a great insert. The install looks perfect! For what you have noow, I will bet you that you have trippled the efficiency compared to the old unit?
Nothing beats the majic and warmth from wood burning! I heat my house solely with wood. One "Princess"cook stove, and one big box Lennox wood stove(with fan). Love them!
Stay warm:)

I bet more than that, since the previous setup was just a masonry fireplace. They have almost no benefit in my experience beyond radiation heating from the flames, plus lousy control of the fire.

Will you get the same heat amount from an insert compaired to a stand alone stove?
