The house got down to 65 this morning, the boiler never kicked on, still had a bed of coals going and threw a few logs in. It wasn't that cold last night, mid 30s.

So what did you have in there before, and what are the main differences?

It was just a basic masonry fireplace with the only exception being a Heatilator built into it and basic glass doors. It was basically just a big vacuum for the warm air in the house when I had a fire going.

On a side note, I talked to the stove shop today and they ordered the complete blower kit at no cost to me from Jotul, but it won't be in for roughly two weeks.

This was essentially the smoke shelf of the Heatilator that had to be notched for the 6" SS liner to get up into the flue without partially crushing it. You can see the top of it was rusting away to nothing from rainwater collecting in soot over the years prior to a chimney cap. Surprisingly the solid steel, which hadn't rusted was 1/8" sheet.

Heck yeah, you will see a massive improvement then. I am curious about the difference in "real world" output between a wood stove insert like your Jotul and a metal fireplace unit like I have (Heat N' Glo). Ours is rated for 100K BTU/hr, and it does belt out the heat, but I also need to keep it fed a couple times an hour when running wide open. I can close the gasketed doors and turn the blower on to get heat with a slower burn, but I don't see nearly as much heat output. I still leave the outside air damper open, though, so I need to experiment with burn rate and heat output with that closed. Long term, I think I will probably go with a stove insert at some point in the future, as I think it offers better control over the heat output and duration of burn.
