I like the burying wire idea. I can't do that yet because I plan to have my coop and run portable for the time being. When they wear out the grass in one spot I'm gonna move it. When I build a more permanent run I'll bury the wire around. I'm hoping my lab will leave them alone and they can free range at times and the dog will help with predators.

Has anyone used the plastic fence material instead of metal chicken wire?
It is available in all kinds of heights and different hole configurations.

We use a plastic net type fence that is 7 feet tall around our garden and it is great to keep the deer out.

For chickens I'm thinking of something more like snow fence or a small square hole design which we have used for
cats and dogs. The plastic stuff is really tuff.

This is how I did my run. The tin is around a foot deep.

Now that is one nice chicken coop!! Nicely done!!

I planned to expand mine one day by building a mirror image on the end of what I have. Wife wants a section that can be separate for hatching chicks eventually. Now I may have a new idea....lol.
