Got a new used motor

Man, I bet he didn't think he was gonna hafta do a complete overhaul when he bought this................

In for a penny, in for a pound as they say. Since you've gone this far, do it right, then at least you know you'll have a good motor for a long time.

Assuming it was running when removed, he should do fine with a basic valve and ring job. I believe he said the bearings plasti-gauged ok.

In for a penny in for pound. I like it. Your are right, like I said I had hoped for a turn key job.

I got the head in to the machine shop this morning. They said I should replace all the valves and possible the springs if there not to expensive. Valve job 50-60 bucks plus parts.

Stopped by Autozone and picked up ridge reamer, cylinder hone and ring groove cleaner.

I had a friend tell me that if you pull the bearing caps you should replace the bearings as the don't seat up right. I thought you just had to put them back in the same orientation.

If you've pulled them, I would replace them - they're not that expensive - and again you'll know that you're all new there. Good for peace of mind (and oil pressure ) if nothing else.
I agree with your machine shop, let them replace what they think they should and you'll get a proper job.

Won't be long now, it'll be purring away again!
