Got a cut? Put on some Pepper!

Several people I work with claim their standard treatment for any kind of itch (bug or plant) is to scratch it open and pour bleach on it. They claim it stops the itch and the spreading of it. They also claim it hurts....a lot. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

the ignition coil/cattle prod solution brought up by Ed sounds kindof painful too.

I think that treatment was more aimed as a treatment for snakebites. It is an emergency treatment you do onsite to slow/counteract the venom until you can get to the doctor. Admitedly, it does sound painful, but if it kept me alive/prevented major tissue damage, I think I'd be willing to go with a little pain.

a few years back, there were a few companies that were selling little shockers to treat snakebite, they were about the size of a pack of cigarettes. i haven't seen them in a while?
speaking of home/ole time remedies, i read an article several years ago about how they use to treat hemoroids!!!!!! it was with a red hot poker, the article said they occasionally had to withstrain the patient!!!!!!!! i sent that article to my mother in law, right after she got released from the hospital for that type surgery..

I am not a chewing tobacco type of guy,/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gifbut have taken cigarette tobacco and held it in the hottest water I could stand and applied it to bites. Don’t know why but it did work.

Home Remedys from a country boy-
Smack yer finger with something, soak it in Turpentine for 15 minutes, takes away the pain, and eliminates the need to drill the fingernail.
Bee, wasp, hornet Stings, soak the spot for 10 minutes with cider vinegar, will withdraw the stinger and detox the sting.
Mosquito bites, swabbing with household ammonia will eliminate the itching, but it will dry the skin out.
Poison Ivy, swab the area down with Hydrogen peroxide.

I was floating around the internet a few weeks ago just looking up sites for home remedies just because I like to read about that type of stuff and see how folks use to live. I was surprised at the number of different injuries and illness' where Turpentine was used.
