Goodbye to a great dog

My eldest golden retriever, Mercedes, had a stroke tonight after fifteen years of loving companionship. She had a good life full of fun, but we couldn't have her suffer. Calling the vet to have her put down was hard, but I just couldn't bear to have the old girl suffer.

I was okay till my other four goldens started grooming her. Seeing them say goodbye like that...I just lost it. She was a sweet, loyal dog...and I'll miss her.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing in the world will give you devotion like a good dog. I have three, and I dread the day the oldest goes.

Pete, what can one say but I'm sorry to hear the very sad news. Like loosing a child. But you did the correct thing no sense in letting her suffer.

My deepest sympathies. We have cats and a dog, and had to have one of our cats put down several months ago. This was hard, but the bond you develop with a dog is much stronger and more personal. The only consolation in this situation is that the animal continues to live in your memory.

Sorry for your loss. We lost 2 cockers within a month back in 1996 and it was very hard. Our current cocker will be 5 in October and we enjoy him and haven't forgotten the other dogs we've had. Pets, especially dogs, are a real gift.

I know what you're feeling, Pete, and I'm really, really sorry.

I've had to make that final agonizing decision 3 times in my life, and each time was the hardest thing I ever had to do. People who have never owned dogs have no idea what it's like, but they indeed become a part of you, and saying goodbye is almost unbearable.

I'm sorry about your loss. My wife & I have 5 Springer Spaniels & I grew up with lots of Dogs & Cats. It is very tough to say goodby when you loose one. You might want to visit www.rainbowbridge.com. It is a great site & might help you & your family say goodby.

Real sorry to hear about that. I know I get very attached to our pets. Sounds like Mercedes had a good life and is likely frolicking in the next plane of existance.
