I am looking to restore lawn tractors and sell for a profit for instance I have a 1966 JD 110. Is there a good brand or model of any kind that has a decent restored selling price? Not looking to get rich just suppot hobby and eventually get into bigger tractor restorations.

Haha......guess what I was thinking when I read your post......

Was gonna regale the story when I was loading a old "clunker" craftsman up some steep loading ramps.....wet out......tires were slipping, then caught. Came right back over on me. Kinda scrambled (mostly) outta the way, but got pinned underneath for 20-30 minutes.....was raining......yelling at the wife inside who was either laughing as hard as I was, or didn't hear me.....got a 12" strawberry on my thigh as a reminder. :(

As for your question, the older JD's and Cubs seem to have a good following, I'm sure there are others. Would be a fun hobby -

good luck with it!

Ya could experiment with Hopping em up and pulling too, if so minded?I really like the 1100cc motorcycle engine class in pullin..Older JD's and Cub Cadet's do hold values..

Scoutcub, that is a good story. My wife tends to laugh at me when I get hurt and the more it hurts the harder she laughs, unless theres blood then she can't look. If I get hurt I look elswhere for help.

I would think a JD 400 series. They are in demand and get good money if in good shape. It has the rep. as "the best garden tractor ever made".

I agree with Messmaker for sure.

I agree, but do some research on Craigslist (various locations) to see what the asking prices are.
Even though Deeres hold their prices, replacement parts aren't cheap. A "restored" Deere may not be worth the time or money you put into the restoration.
Most folks (IMHO) buying a used garden tractor aren't looking for a restored machine...just something fairly cheap to mow with.

I agree with Roy, the used tractor market around here has been best with folks looking for a cheap machine to mow their summer place with or someone with maxed credit looking to have a rider like their neighbor has...full restorations don't seem to bring what they should. I wiuld try to start out by buying machines for $100 or less and try to get them mechanically good and sell in the $350-$400 range, you have to remember you are competing with end of season tin cans for $800 new with warranty...
