Perhaps you guys in the US can get glow plugs cheap, but over here in Oz they are very pricey. Our local 'discount' auto shop wanted $30 each for 4 glow plugs. (Total $120). They didn't have them in stock anyway.
A bit of a search online and on ebay uncovered this crew in the UK. http://www.gsparkplug.com/shop/ Their price was $13 each plus a total of $7 for postage. (Total $59). They are on their way.
