Price Check Good price for used 1910?

Hey guys ,I am just looking for a bit of advice, a friend of mine is looking into buying a used Ford/New Holland 1910. It is a 1988 model with 1380 hrs on it. It has the Ford loader and a Kelly hoe on it and is 4wd. To me it is in relatively good condition, the hoe is a little sloppy, but the unit runs and drives well. It also recently had a new clutch installed, the guy selling it is the original owner and is asking $8500 for it, it seems reasonable to me, but I know you guys will say if it is or isn't, thanks for your help in advance!

Well, I usually search Google and get into some machinery link and search units for sale. A local dealer in Maine has a 1900 for $8500, no hoe. I paid $6500 for a '79 1700 with bucket and inexpensive 5' cutter last June, also with 1400 hours. I don't know the exact condition of the one you're looking at, but I think it sounds O.K.

I usually look for signs of neglect and abuse, like bent brackets, cracks, bad tack welds, broken or cut wiring, stains, leaks, tires damage (which is normal but shouldn't be excessive). People who abuse equipment usually don't have the desire to clean it up too much, other than a quick once-over. First thing I look at is the rims - to see if the edges are bent up. Then I look at the bucket, loader arms, and so forth to see how much it has been slammed around.

Not too scientific sounding, but usually a good indication. The fact that you are talking to the original owner is a real plus - you can really get to know how it has beeen treated.
