Good neighbors

There's been lots of posts about neighbors that aren't so good so I want to toss out a "good neighbors" post.

A month ago, a young lady (34 years old) up the road got killed in a car accident. She left behind her husband and 6 young children. The family struggled to make ends meet even with both working. The eldest son is doing home schooling just so he can watch the pre-school siblings to avoid daycare costs. Unfortunately, she had no life ins. either.

Her husband has not been doing so well and cannot return to the house in which they lived. They are all living with relatives.

The entire community has been chipping in to help the family get through this.

Now, our neighborhood is going one step farther. We're going to build them a new house. Their existing house was in pretty bad shape. It was bulldozed last week and the new foundation is going in this week. Framing is going to start in early June.

Many of my neighbors own building related companies so we have most everything covered. My company is computer related so I guess I'll be a laborer but I think I'll network the house and provide them with some computers, printers...

Thanks Bob.

That was my wife's first thought and she wrote the letter to send. We didn't send in that the fine print required a lot both initially (to become even qualified to enter) as well as during the project) from the family. With the loss of his wife, we didn't think the family needed the extra stress.

Good neighbors are wonderful, bad ones are awful. I am very happy to have currently have good neighbors, we help each other when needed and don't interfere in each others lives, a very nice arrangement.

A person that helps others in a small community will be repaid in their time of need.

Good for you all. That is great. And ..your right; it's nice to see a thread on here about good neighbors. We've been talking to much about the bad neighbors that we've all had at one time or another.

Thanks everyone.

Bob - My wife couldn't reach the person who's going to be the General Contractor for this project so she's stopping at his house tonight. We need more details as to what's planned before I can answer that. I've already started going through the house/office and selecting things that I'm going to offer (furniture, fixtures, stuff for the kids, computers...) but not sure yet what's needed (besides the obvious cash and labor).

When it comes time for the entertainment, let me know, I'll ship you a brand new 5 speaker DVD AM/FM Surround Sound System. I have a couple extra "Go Video" brand systems in my conference room from a sales contest. They are nice systems, I use the same system in my rec room.

Just let me know when & where to ship it.
