Are you a Russian/German?
not from that description
country lines changed a lot in that area due to so many wars, might have
been Poland once.
But my name is clearly an operative word in German language, which I have never spoken
Birth certificate for grandmother was German, wish I knew how they met.
closest major city Brody, Ukraine
I think father's side was just immigrant Jews coming over to make a living in the promised land.

when I sat in my boat in NY harbor looking up at the statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island,
it truly gave me goosebumps.

good thing they immigrated early in the century.
The family that remained simply disappeared in 1941 when the Nazis came into Brody, rounded up all the Jews, which was most
of the town and our family, put them in the same cattle cars my ancestors had loaded fattened cattle in for market, and then took a half day ride in the train straight to Belzec concentration camp. I found 10 Augenblicks listed as coming from that area, in the war memorial databases.
because of this, very hard to get family to talk about "the old days"
I think they were scared to death to even mention they were of Jewish faith.
I never knew my Father was, he never practiced.
I'm going to be the last family member that "remembers".
newer gens don't want to think about unpleasant family memories.
as long as they learn from them.

My mother's side is well documented, family tree back to Miles Standish, most of it due to my middle
name Allen. No one of note, no great accomplishments, likely quite a few quiet Quakers.

42F with abundant sunshine @ 12:30, calling for a high of around 43F for the day. Low this morning was 27.2F.

Woman announced She was making pancakes yesterday morning and inquired as to whether I wanted any.

"Sure ..."

Big mistake ... passed out for several hours on the couch ... 🤬

Finally got moving around 16:30 and got down to the basement.

Floor had dried up, scraped the debris loose with a mud knife and gathered that up in a dust pan.

After that I hit the floor and a small section of wall with a wire brush and then vacuumed that up.

Then scrubbed the remaining salt off the lower section of wall with some plain water and a scrub brush.

Then trained the fan and halogen lights on that to dry it up real quick.

Discovered the bottom one of the legs on the stationary tub had rusted away so I stuck a chunk of 2 x 4 underneath it to jack it up and support it.

Changed out furnace filter.

Located the breaker for that next wall outlet and turned that off then pulled the outlet, electrical box, and conduit down off the wall.

Got the next section of foam board trimmed out for the HVAC line that goes through the wall to outside and then got that glued up, placed, and braced.

Marked out locations of studs on the next 8' bottom plate and took some measurements for the studs.

Pulled the extra water filter element that had been soaking in Iron Out and got it rinsed off and set it on the dish rack to dry.

Was around 22:00 at that point so I called it quits for the day.

On the agenda for the rest of the day:

Fire up torpedo heater and get the garage warmed up so I can start cutting the next batch of studs to length.

Refill hopper feeder and probably both suet feeders.

Collect up seeds which are now dry from the last Mammoth Gold pumpkin we processed and get those put away.

Clean off another pumpkin and get it in the oven, then process it in the food processor once it's cooked, and package it up for the freezer.

Gather up trash/garbage to go up to the cans.

Beyond that just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Monday ... (y)

RS, did you pour syrup all over those pancakes?
you may have had a sugar overdose...
since most pancake mix is super refined, nothing healthy in there
I have to be careful eating pancakes, otherwise in an hour I feel jittery and hungry.

got all the leaves done, silly for awhile chasing them around but finally got them sucked up

Good Morning to All Who Celebrate! Currently 44° heading to a high of 46°, cloudy and windy, rain forecast for the rest of the week.

Productive weekend, despite appearances, I got all the wood sorted and piled to dry on the pallets and covered with a tarp:

Not the prettiest stack, but hopefully sturdy enough. Also got a call back from the salesman at Messick's working through buying the snowblower. I have a feeling that this winter is going to be bad. But in saying that I likely just doomed us to 60° December/January/February.

Sister and her Husband packed up the baby and their dog on Sunday after a good weekend. Celebrated Thanksgiving early as they'll be at his family this year. Mom's always sad to see the little man go, even after chasing him around the house. Didn't get a chance to get him on the tractor, was a little too cold for him according to his mom. So be it.

Goals for this week: Waiting on the call from my local Messick's when the snowblower comes in so I can pick it up. Other than that, just survive the workweek. I guess it's time to start thinking about Christmas Gifts too.

Fuddy, sorry for your loss. May your mother Rest in Peace.
Wingsprd: Like a picture out of a magazine!
Drew: Wow! what a piece of history. It's always amazing to trace your roots and see where they end up.

All not specified, Stay safe out there Y'all and Be well!
Prayers for all Ailing and Recovering!
Messicks will normally ship to the nearest location to you. They do that for me when i order parts.

Do buy that snow blower, to guarantee a mild winter. lol

one last old car pic
sent by archivist from West Orange NJ
next door to my grandfather's property.
I don't know old cars at all but that
looks like a lot of fun

early "foreign" car...
