are all torx or star drives the same?
do they have different numbers of teeth and is their some standard?
I think six teeth is standard but?
you need a combo of both grip and strength

don't think they quote steel quality or hardness on the box
predrilling carefully here will reduce the problems

learned a new word, hexalobular socket
aka Torx being the brand name
One screw that I have had good luck with was a Robertson drive (a tapered square drive). My Canadian built 290 Thundercraft boat was full of them. Never had one not come out or stripped.
Henry Ford wanted to use them for his cars. But Robertson did not want to give a license to Ford. So we ended up with Philip’s drive screws. 🙄🤠

@daugen +1 on GRK fasteners. I keep a set of countersink drills around for predrilling finish pieces as it helps me with uniformity. Out of curiosity, how are you hanging the pans? I have had trouble with pan lips resting on the wall and marking the wall over time.

I use the Timbertec on posts and beams. I love them.

Looking forward to the first snow day of the winter (whenever it happens).

Recharge day here.

All the best,

Peter

Drew, my son had a 2023 Hybrid Jeep. He loved it. But 4 recalls on the batteries hurt his love of the vehicle. He had new batteries put in it in July under warranty. He traded it in on a Diesel model in early August. He got notice from Jeep that the new set of batteries had another recall on traded in Jeep in September.

Peter
the kit comes with s hooks and I thought the thicker piece of wood in my case would hold them out further from wall.
now that wouldn't work with your SF earthquakes, your pots would be moving all over the place! ;)

yes I can see where that would be a wear area

I used to have a nice set of countersinks
if I was truly motivated would bore holes with plug cutter and make a wood top
but not that motivated....
yes, I have used GRK before and they really bite in well, so will look for 4" version

so if 8 provides more grip than 5, maybe a good idea
I'll look for one that provides the bit with the box
thanks for ideas

Instead of counter sinking have you considered "cabinet" screws?

In a much smaller box of course :)

Morning all, 45 going to 54 and sunny.
Got the front Christmas lights up, the hooks I put in last year worked great, no more ladder involved.
Got them up in less than an hour, including making the hook to go on the end of the pole.

Then out to dinner, my Wife's birthday this week, maybe to the movies later.

Have fun at the beach Mostly

Our condolences Fuddy.

Torx work great, just use a good bit some of the cheap ones just fail. Number of teeth is standard, size varies. I used a bunch for my drywall project and they worked great. I had issues with squared ones clogging with dust. Drywall is it's own world though. Most small electronics use Torx since it works better than anything else in small sizes.

When shopping for my SUV I looked at used Jeep hybrids, I saw too many tradeins with 4000 miles or less, which is a bad sign for issues short term.

Be well,

The pole is certainly lighter and safer than the 22' fiberglass ladder. Especially safer as the end side ground is steep towards the end of the house and the ladder can easily tilt towards the driveway.

Done, wired and tested. 2 strands one for each side of the front, this is all one strand in the pic.

56F and partly cloudy @ 10:00, heading up to around 63F for the day;s high temp. Low this morning was 36.8F.

Was 55F and cloudy @ 13:45 yesterday when I started this post, and calling for 56F as the day's high. Low yesterday morning was 25.2F.

Spent several hours yesterday (Thursday) afternoon on the Cub blowing leaves, got maybe 90% done. By the end it was painfully chilly.

Everything except the oaks have lost their leaves.

Got the remaining short pieces for the south stud wall cut to length and nailed in place.

Cut more unfaced fiberglass insulation and got that put up on the south stud wall. Only one cavity left to do there.

Spent some time cleaning up the mess and organizing tools.

Cleaned off next section of concrete on the west wall.

Hosed off old water filter element that had been previously cleaned once before and got it soaking in some Iron Out.

Yesterday afternoon we worked on getting loose ends outside tied up:

Finished up blowing leaves on west side.

Also cut/mulched the leaves and grass on the lower part of the front lawn.

Swapped forks for Light Material bucket on Kubota.

Collected up what was left of the buck carcass and hauled it up to the compost/woodlot for further "processing" by the critters. Saw another spike buck up there while I was doing that, was a unicorn ... lol.

Woman worked on cleaning up in garage and gathering up trash and recyclables.

I hauled those up to the cans at the road, also took a load of compostable items up to the pile.

Took down the string lines on the garden fence and collected up the tote containing tools and some others and brought those up front.

Woman took down insect netting and got that all folded up and stowed away until next year.

Woman stretched out a couple of garden hoses to drain.

Paid or scheduled 3 bills to be paid.

Called well driller in Mansfield, spoke with secretary asking if proposal had been emailed out. She checked the system and didn't see anything on it, said she would let the guy I spoke with know I had called inquiring.

Agenda for today:

Finish final mowing of front lawn @ 3".

Continue cleaning up out front and getting that stuff put away for the winter.

Gather up drained garden hose and get those put away in the barn.

Had picked up a couple of jugs of Power Service from Menards last time, need to get that dumped in the IBC totes.

Once finished up outside probably head back down to the utility room project.

Need to check water heater relief valve and furnace filter.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ... (y)
