for the resident motorheads:
Jeep just announced the recall of over a 100 thousand Cherokees and XJs with their hybrid system over last two years.
Apparently yet another case of bad manufacturing, this time left over sand from molds was not cleaned properly and sand
got into the engines. Sand and bearings sure make an unhappy couple...
really remarkable how many bad new engines are being built today. Hemi ticks, Ford ecoboost cam phasers, Toyota
build errors on their latest high tech V6 apparently similar to the Jeep, and of course all the GM 6.2s and even 5.3s failing at low hours. The list goes on and on, and many caused by human error.
Many caused by bad variable timing gears and the seemingly widespread use of plastic parts now.
Let's add too thin oil in there...
almost like you have to find a reliable engine first, then pick a vehicle to put it in. I'm hoping the new straight six put out by Stellatlantis
proves reliable. Straight six is usually tougher. As much as I liked the sound of my hemi going barroooommm when I started it up, would not own
another one. Truck made many trips to dealer, including new roller lifters.
The dealership experience at Lexus has been good, but always a financial gauntlet to get past.
They really want me to pay 2700 bucks to put a new gasket in my transfer case.
what I need to do is find a good private mechanic, since I'm out of warranty
thankfully my IUR-FE toyota v8 is known to run at least 300k miles if taken care of.
This engine has a cartridge filter that is not easy to get to or I'd change the oil myself.
Instead it's probably 150 bucks at dealer. plus plus plus
I do 5k changes, probably could go a little higher. So perhaps I have to change my oil twice a year instead
of once.
