good morning, 74 going to 80 with showers possible in the PM

Found a group of deer inside the field with an 8 ft deer fence. Mowed it yesterday and had left the gate open until after putting the mower away. Do not think they can jump the fence. Opened the gate and took some hearding to get them to find out that they could just go out.

Need to get an application for a replacement birth certificate notarized. State of Iowa have quite the process for getting this compared to most states

68°F and .01 inches rain

Sophie does have a chipped tooth and will have to return for what Dentist described as an easy fix.

Nothing monumental accomplished otherwise

Happy Hour another successful gathering

Need to make a PO run today. See the grass calling for attention.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I got the underside of the Z-turn all cleaned up and hosed down. The clippings and crud went on the schitty compost pile. Hosed off the tractor and the Dodge as well. Checked the coolant in the Kioti, good for -50°F.
When I start the Kioti, it smokes and spits and sputters for a bit. Smoke = 15 seconds. Misses as if running on two out of the three cylinders for about 30 - 45 seconds and then smooths right out. I wait until it has smoothed out and then bump the throttle up to 1400 rpm for warm up.
Z-turn can go away for the winter, now.

69F, cloudy, and moist @ 12:45, calling for a high of 78 for the day. Chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm but most of the rain appears to have moved off south and east.

Gauge has 2.5" in it as of this morning.

That will go a long way towards relieving the dry conditions and eliminating the fire risk - something we usually don't have to worry about here ... but, tbh, I was starting to get a little concerned about, with the leaves starting to fall.

But we're still down 4" from normal annual rainfall.

Fortunately another round of showers/thunderstorms with substantial rain is due in tomorrow (75% chance) and Thursday.

Saw a groundhog out back yesterday during a lull in the rain and managed to get the bedroom window open without spooking it.

Got a shot off ... it ran towards a burrow entrance then stopped and stood up on its hind legs. Which allowed me to get a second shot off ... after which it ran into the woods on the west side.

Good chance it caught at least some of the shot ... probably will go **** up like the one I found at the burrow entrance at the northwest corner of the garage. That one turned out to be a groundhog and not a 'coon btw.

On the agenda for today:

Wash out pre filter for air cleaner on the Cub, maybe get that changed and put on if I can get it dried and it clears up some.

Today probably wouldn't be a bad day to core the lawn but I'm unsure of the fuel situation on the Cub. Probably hold off until Friday or Saturday when it supposed to clear up.

Could swap out the 12" auger bit for the 6", again assuming it clears up.

Clean and prep more veggies for the freezer, get those vacuum-sealed and stowed away.

Beyond that just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Tuesday ... (y)

Nothing monumental accomplished

Describes my last couple days. Did run to town today to return the plumbing part from Lowes, checked on brake pads for the 13 Pilot, not in stock but they can have them today. Wife is on to my lunch runs to town.....

Trip Day 6:
Since I hadn't been feeling good we changed our plans, and instead of going west at Sioux Falls towards the badlands, we went north towards North Dakota. Ran into a heavy rainfall at Sioux Falls as we stopped for gas. The plan was to go cut out about 3 days of the trip, go to North Dakota to say we were there, then head East towards Superior WI, although we wouldn't make it that far.
Somewhere 30-40 miles north of sioux falls, we passed a billboard for the Laura Ingalls Wilder house in DeSmet SD. My wife missed it, but I brought it to her attention. She said she would love to visit it, maybe the next time... When we got to the exit I took it, and said there won't be a next time, and drove 40 miles west. This house isn't it,just the visitor center,, the first house is next door.

This is the house where they lived when they first moved here when she was a young girl, and until they bought their land in the country and moved to the Prairie just a couple miles out of town. (We ended up not seeing that house, but this church is right behind it).

They have moved the school where Laura and her sister Mary went to school, behind the house in town.

Laura married and moved out of the prairie house, and later in life her parents moved back to town to the following house.

While my wife toured the house, I rested in the car and made the executive decision to continue up to Bismarck ND, still 5-6 hrs away, to make our ND visit legitimate. lol
We took backroads up into ND, passing some interesting sights

My wife drove about 2 hrs of this trip, the only time on the trip she drove. When we got to Bismarck, is was like a time machine... but it was closed.

Interesting thing about driving along I94, there are ponds or small lakes beside the road, the speed limit is 80 mph, no guard rails between the road and the lakes, if you go off the side of the road, you could sink and never be found. Also, construction areas's where they make one side of the interstate 2 way traffic, with just a plastic cones between the lanes. In MD they would put up concrete barriers and reduce the speed to 45 mph, in ND and SD they put up a plastic cone and reduce the speed from 80 to 65 mph.

I grew up about 20 miles NE of DeSmet.

Great pictures BEF, I have to get up North there some day.
ND and SD are amazing places to visit. Each state is at least twice the size of OHio. Took about 3.5 hrs to drive from DeSmet up to I94, thought we would never get there, and the speed limit is 65 on a lot of the rural highways. Couple bonus pics.

Pre cleaner washed and now drying.

Started kitchen clean up but sun came out so I headed outside and swapped the auger bits.

After that I got those two sections on the 12’ round poles coated.

It has clouded back up but not raining currently and nothing on the radar close by and minimal chances for the rest of the daylight hours.

Think I might give the 6” auger a shot on the problematic holes and see how that goes.
