For Thomas.

Observing wildlife can be fun and entertaining, however allowing critters that can easily kill you is not sensible.
Letting them lose their fear of man makes them dangerous. And especially a sow and her cubs can be hazardous. It also makes them an easy target for hunters who do not know how acclimatized to man they have become.

No argument from me Lou. I was just wanting insight from Thomas. It seems he maintains a safe distance from his critters, and makes sure that they adhere to it.

Morning all, 65 going up to 76 and sunny
Yesterday worked out well, train was on time both ways and we went all over Manhattan as usual.
Son came up to meet us and we wandered over to Central park before he had to go back downtown. He seems to be doing well and making friends.

Today we will be resting a bit, by the time we got home last night we had walked over 8 miles.

At my Uncles house in MA we would watch the bears on the crab apple tree.

Be well,

We love walking around Manhattan, people pick on the Mayor, but I point out how safe and clean the city has become over the last few years. The previous mayor did such an awful job and the city got dirty and did not feel as safe. If only we would do this in Chicago or SF, a strong Mayor helps so much.

something truly unique about the Empire State Building
building is now 95 years old
bet it's had a few things replaced...

sitting down with a groan, but got the lawn mowed and trimmed by pushing the
cordless mower. At least no weedeating today.
then put Rosetone down on all the rosebushes and watered the entire property afterwards.

got in a new package of small white cup hooks.
my primary tool in training my roses.
first I drill a small hole and then screw in cuphooks as I train the roses horizontally
on my wooden fence. I hope the roses overwinter ok, I'd hate to have to retrain them every year.
Maybe I should think about winter protection?

so headed out to take advantage of another two feet of growth on one rose; probably a two hooker.
in a little bit
body still saying stay put
lovely cool day out, 75 in bright sun

Lou, hope your wife is feeling good today. You too Buppies. And Ted. and?
wives are always more important than us

Coffee is tasting very good this morning. 54° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 78° with mostly cloudy skies. Got windows washer before sun gmade it too hot. Trip to Menards went good. Got all on my list. Until I got home and realized I had not picked up the package. Made the 5 mile trip back for it. Got tractor out and cut grass in back field. Rest of the day was spent on back porch enjoying a nice cool breeze. More of that today along with shrub trimming.

80F and sunny @ 13:30, heading up to around 81F for the day’s high. Low this morning was 57F.

Weather Babe announced on the news last night that rainfall @ CAK is now 6.25” below normal for the year.

Chance of rain on 8 of the days in the Ten Day.

More work done on post holes yesterday, with slow progress. Did get another hole drilled to 36” depth.

Used the bow rake to pull the spoils back around 6” or so from 9 of the holes. Hopefully that will keep the spoils from getting washed into the holes … if we get a heavy rain.

Since I could easily see where grade was I also measured the hole depths. They ranged from from 24” to 39” deep. Only 3 holes were less than 30” deep.

The 2 shallowest holes got watered with 1 - 2 gallons and left to soak in overnight.

If don’t start getting better progress on the shallow holes I may have to consider swapping out the 12” auger bit for the 6” and see if I can’t bust them up a bit.

Used loader on the Kubota to pull up 3 of 4 t-posts along the southern edge of garden. Those were stuck so good that it was lifting the wheels and tipping the tractor as I was applying pressure. Left the last one after giving it a try due to tractor not being level.

Also got the t-post on the northwest corner up by the house pulled … which will allow me to drill the hole for the corner post there.

On the agenda for today:

Refill bird feeders.

Take a crack at the 2 holes that were left to soak.

Clear the spoils from around the last 3 holes and check the depth on those.

Have more Honey Baby winter squash that are looking like they might need harvested.

See what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday …

I have a couple of hose rollers that go in the ground to keep my garden hose from wrecking the garden by being pulled
over it, and they have pulled out. Normally I'd just go get my hand sledge and beat them back in.
But they are plastic and ground is hard as a rock. Like RS need rain to soften the ground up first.

had fun working on my roses, a five cuphook day
earlier some big black birds came in and scared the locals away
are these grackles??

feet are going up for the day
