Walked the property with Cody and snapped a couple of pictures. The Chestnut, black Walnut and Hickory trees are not producing much this year likely lack of rain causing that. Some years are wall to wall covered with nuts.

Good Morning to All Who Celebrate! Currently 72° heading to a high of 82°. Hazy and sunny.

Week went well, not quite so much of a whirlwind, but still busy, moving things right along. Dermatology appointment went well, scheduled a date in October to get the big lipoma on my arm sliced off. They also took a mole under my other arm, so I've got a gaping wound there to deal with. That was the mole that would bother me, so I'm happy to see it go. They say they'll send it to the lab and I'll know if I have the Big C or not here in a week or two.

This weekend I plan on going to a local place to get the tags for the trailer, haven't had time to sneak away from work and get it done. Also need to get to TSC to get the correct socket for the lugs and some tie down chains. There's a few implements out there that are calling my name, maybe. Otherwise my plans for the weekend are stay as cool as possible and let the next heatwave pass. I don't know about y'all, but I'm about done with summer. Ready for fall.

Y'all stay safe out there and be well!
Prayers for all ailing and recovering!

63 going to 80...another nice day for August.

Don, sorry your wife is sick, and hope you don't catch it. I heard Moderna's covid vaccine sales dropped from $18 billion in 2022 to $114 million last quarter. I have the hand-held version of that snipper, about the size of a drill, and it is awesome. I've developed arthritis in my thumbs from the thousands of times I've slapped manual lopper arms together to cut (limbs and little saplings that were really too large). This cordless pruner is tough.
If it will reach the saplings that are heading to the roof to give me more time not to call out the tree people, except every other year, it will be a win. The pole goes from 6 to 9 feet so with my height I should be able to reach 14-15ft. I had a manual pole pruner with a rope but it could not cut anything over 1/2" of the hardwood on the live oak trees.

74F and "Fair" @ 10:00, heading up to around 86F for the day's high.

Hopper and tube feeders both refilled first thing yesterday, also scattered some seeds for the ground feeders.

Scheduled some bills for payment.

Got front lawn all mowed, then mowed compost/woodlot as well.

Swamp milkweed still in bloom and attracting Monarch butterflies out front:

Refilled Water Buffalo.

Swapped out Light Material bucket for the pallet forks on Kubota and got boards on eastern edge moved up front for cleaning.

Also relocated 3 (partial) pallets of mulch from the back up to the second circle where it might be shadier when loading them into the dump cart.

Moved log off neighbor’s lawn into the woods.

Swapped pallet forks back out for Light Material bucket.

Watered pumpkins on back trellis, 2 gallons per plant. Also a little trellis work and trimming of dying leaves.

Watered little redbud tree on west side with 4 gallons with Schultz’s 20-20-20 mixed in.

Watered the 3 Waltham Butternut squash plants on the slope under the maple tree at the southwest corner of the house, 2 gallons per plant. There are at least 10 fruits on just those plants alone:

Raked up a bunch of dead weeds The Woman had me dump over near that area.

Have more Waltham Butternut plants over on the arched trellis and along the east edge of the flower bed.

One of the pumpkins along the east edge of the flower bed:

Not sure what type but should be one of the bigger ones.

Collected some more summer squash, okra, and cucumbers before I quit for the day … including one monster cuke that got away from us:

Probably going to need a bigger sling for the Hubbard Blue ... it just seems to get bigger with each passing day:

Agenda for today:

Refuel Cub which I didn’t do yesterday.

Probably get the mowing done down here around the house.

Haul down more wood chips to mulch around the last few arbs I planted.

Do some glyphosate spraying, winds permitting.

Beyond the above just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a good TGIF ... (y)

The pumpkin is likely a Mammoth Gold … which makes sense given the color. Could go to 60 lbs.

Did some reading on the Hubbard winter squash (blue and gold) … they’re listed as producing 10 lb fruits … which is why I stuck them on the trellis.

But a footnote (and some grower’s comments) mention they can go to over 30 lbs …

My nut splitters don't seem to hold up, they usually deform and twist. Never had much luck with them. I did actually cut two of the nuts off of those bolts, cut one side drive it around with a chisel and then cut the other side. Especially when not reuseing the bolts.
I've had cheap ones and I wasn't impressed either.
FWIW: Here's what I use now: McMaster-Carr

I disassembled it when I got it, cleaned the internals and lubed everything up with extreme pressure grease. YMMV.

It is slightly beveled, so it gets closer to the surface if you are up against a flat, like a tire rim. It's been a lifesaver for me on some salted and rusted undercarriage and steering components.

All the best, Peter

68°F and .09 inches rain

Mowing continues.

Too much time on computer and phone yesterday over a banking issue. Hopefully today I find out if finally resolved.

Watched my friend John compete in his swim meet. Didn’t place as high as last year but kudos just for being there.

Good meet up with CA friends. Only here 3 weeks this trip.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
