Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #208,121
Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 0.3C and it's presently 11.4C [heading to 17C], partly cloudy & calm. There was 0.5mm in the gauge @ 0900.

A lovely service at Church yesterday... home by 1030 to switch on to the "Breaking News". That certainly was an interesting day's news. To bed late, 2230, after the Pentagon briefing @ their 0800-0830.

Just a few tasks to do today, including wrapping & sending BD presents to my Mate in Brisbane, QLD. Rain is predicted for tomorrow starting in the wee hours and going for the rest of the day.

That's about it, take care all.

Any thoughts on using a disc harrow, just to break surface an inch or two, then the land rake, probably adding more 1” as neccessary.

I wouldn’t think that a disc would be a good choice for hard packed ground. I have always used a box scraper for that task, sometimes with the ripper teeth down.

What sort of damage did the box scraper do?

If I could poke our TBN brain trust.
In Jun 2014 we redid our lower driveway. Base in an old cane road, topped with 1” minus stone.
11 years has taken its toll. While tempted to just bring in more rock, I think some prep in order. A bit wash boardy in places.

Years before the redo, I attempted using Box Blade, but did more damage than good. I had better luck with my land rake, especially when just topping with rock.

Too compacted this time for just the rake.

I have a set of disks that I separated the rear set off of and just use the front set to fluff up the driveway, then use my back blade to shape it the way I want. Works good for me, but remember my driveway is only pitrun gravel. Nothing fancy like crushed stone.

Catching and turning up the larger rocks. Using rippers even worse.
My thinking in the disc harrow was to just loosen the top enough for land rake to be effective. No need to disturb the base, just need to smooth out.

Hmmm, hadn’t considered taking off back set and fluff is good description of what I have in mind. i don’t figure the disc need any additional weight as I’m looking to disturb not destroy the surface.

Thanks, Ponytug.
I should have said 1” minus. The fines are important.
I assumed that is what you meant. A lot of the old main cane roads had bagasse ash/lime bases that really make a solid base, but many of the field roads weren't so blessed.

All the best,

Peter

Good evening all. 75ºF for the start, partly cloudy, breezy. brisk wind, clouds decrease during day, and high temp was 92ºF, HI 97ºF. Made coffee to start day, Help set up chapel, attend chapel, help tear down chapel, breakfast with group, got organized, start load of laundry. got next month's calendar ready worked on reorder checks, no progress on line so need to call. Reorder script called in, mixed 1/2 gal of two stroke gas, and worked on mower maintenance, such as get underside of mower cleaned, sharpen blade, clean air filter/prefilter, remove carb and clean needle vale assembly, need to get mulching blade for it. Had some issues with drive belt routing during assembly. Didn't get spaghetti sauce made. Mower running better and cutting better.
