Good Morning
53° and overcast, likely the high for today. Rain was threatened all day yesterday, but most of the bands missed us. Looks like we did get 7/8” after midnight according to the Davis weather station, 1/2” according to the Tempest. I believe the Davis.
Yesterday started with feeding everyone waffles.
Then changed the battery in son’s pickup. 2007 GMC 4WD 2500 with 25k on it, still looks like it rolled out of the showroom. It lives inside, hauls a ski boat to the river in the summer, and the occasional other chore.
Next was to finish up the axle project.
I made up assemblies with stub axles that slid into the square tubing, the inside support was rosette welded into holes made with the magnetic drill press, the outboard support was fully welded to the tube. I put bolts through the tube for the chain guides and welded the heads inside the tube before sliding the stubs in.
Here’s a stub getting reading for welding.
And welded in place with the chain guard mounted
Finally leaving the shop.
Fit right in place on the spreader.
Think the old axle was ready to retire?
I did some tinkering with the 3D printer and some more cleaning up before calling it a day.
Today, I might get some pork belly into the smoker, I need to get some charcoal and a diamond bit for putting a hole in ceramic tile. I’ve also got a couple of downed trees to clean up, and an area to grade level and stone for the shed coming next week, so it’s up in the air what actually happens.
