Thomas, we got lucky no trees down and only a few branches to clean up. Most of the power outages were on your side of the state. A lot of flooding on the coast, some roads still closed for repairs.

No plans for today just take it slow.

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

17.6F going int low 40s, sunny day forecasted.

Saturday work was good, much lower attendance so a much more low-key vibe, we will see how today goes. Harry seems to have enjoyed his day at doggie day care, which is only open for drop-off/pickup from noon-4, which does not work for us when our shift today is 11-7… so we have to hope that yesterday’s activity and some play after church will burn off enough energy so that he doesn’t get too creative while we are gone. I really don’t want to have to stuff him in his crate for 8+ hours…

it still amazes me that people have to pay for parking permits at The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and that money was spent to put up ugly barriers in the shoulders of US441 (which quite frankly is dangerous IMO) to prevent people from parking along the road, large boulders acquired and moved into other areas to prevent free parking, metal poles with “NO PARKING PERMIT PARKING IN AUTHORIZED SPACES ONLY” metal signs installed for a couple miles along the highway, ruining the beauty of the ride through the forest, because there was no extra money available to the National Parks Service to help offset increased costs to high inflation (but there was money to buy all these things so that taxpayers could be forced to spend more money on parking permits in a National Park they already pay taxes to support — taxpayer money spent to pay for things to make taxpayers pay more money for something taxpayers already pay for!). And yet 1% of some other expenditures could have offset the money NPS needed for a decade…

I‘ll gladly take a strike today if anyone wants to do it to me, because what was a wonderful free (as in “no out-of-pocket”) day out has been ruined.

and you know those barriers and signs are never going away…

unfortunately with elections this year, and all the craziness involved, it will be harder for all of us
to simply stick with what brings us all together, not what pushes us apart.
but for all these years it has been worth the effort, and this thread has done well
self policing.

does anyone in our group have a greenhouse?
The tiny one I had in NC gave me an enormous amount of satisfaction.
At this time four years ago I'd be watching beans sprout up, growing so fast you could almost see them move.
Am thinking this might be a fun thing to do in the future when done my rv'ing.

what I did learn with the greenhouse is temp control was critical and I burned up a lot of plants when it got too hot in there
on a sunny day. Plus I'd need to configure some kind of propane heater.
But to sit in a warm humid greenhouse where everything smells green on a very cold day outside,
watering and fussing with little plants, it's great fun. Would mean a bigger garden in the back yard also.

It's minus 8 degrees Fahrenheit or minus 22 Celsius this morning. That's the coldest we've seen in quite awhile. The furnace and 3 little space heaters are taking turns keeping us warm.

Good morning all. 42F at 5am, quite warm.

Extremely powerful windstorm raged all night. Power out 8 hours now. We have a fireplace and a generator so we are fine. Will check on neighbors when it gets light.

It's 27f this morning here in E. Texas. Wife and oldest son are on their way back to Central Texas. All roads seem to be clear as far as we could tell.

Weather forcast has improved in that no single digit lows are predicted and the predicted high temps have increased. Showing a slight chance of snow for Monday but I'm kinda doubting it will happen.

Right now it's showing 8f in Lubbock with no snow predicted this week. So, if it's not snowing in the Tx Panhandle I dont know if it's even actually winter.

Meanwhile the reported temp now in Santa Monica is 46f and looking for a high of 60f today.

Still can't tell for sure if there is ice on the roads, it does not look like it.
