Drew, problem with seniors is reaction to the start of a fall is not the same as younger people. I see it in myself when doing everyday things. Then add what we do during the holidays. More chances to have that injury causing fall. Person that fell yesterday is 83.

You have to know background.
For russians, let's say more precise - citizens of russia, NY is most important festive of year. For us, Christian world it is Christmas, here in North EU also Midsummer. For Catholic world - also All Saints.

But 1/4 of citizens of russia are Muslims. So they dont care about Christmas.
Then they still have heritage from SU - significant part of people there are atheists - they dont care either. Even here it is very common that russians are buying Xmas trees at 30-31/12. They call it not Xmas tree, but New Year tree.
Big part of believers are orthodox. Those guys have their own calendar, they celebrate Christmas, but two weeks later.
Obviously there are part of russian citizens which has adapted Western Church, too. I would say - 1/4.
But anyway, as you can see, there are not one dominant group.
But NY is kinda universal - festival for everybody. OK, not really for orthodox, but they turn blind eye. Apart of 09. May, New Year is most important event of the year. And they celebrate it like there will be no tomorrow

Our russians used to celebrate arrival of NY two times. First - Moscow time - 23:00 and then again 00:00. Those fireworks at 23:00 was kind of symbol of failed integration policy. But not any more. Political leaders was rather strict - fireworks before 00:00 will be considered as support for russia. That is criminal offense now
We were out at 23:00, melting tin. There was some fireworks at 23:00, but almost nothing.
So New year arrived smooth and nice

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

32.2F going into 50s, sunny day forecasted.

Dogs had a good walk, I also tapped 5 black walnut trees for making syrup, food prep all done for Dinner at mom’s later, roast will go in oven around 10am.

Happy New Year! 40˚F, N wind, cloudy heading to only the mid 50s.
We did not go to any parties even though they all end at 9:30 in this retirement neighborhood. We just made Cashew milk hot chocolate and lemon cookies and wished good riddance to 2023 and hopefully 2024 will be better.

35 this morning high in 30s I think. In bed by 10:00 PM up at 7:45 not bad. We stayed home again this year better for us. Watched a lot of football then Hallmark movies, she likes good by me.
