you may start a new trend! Remember a couple decades ago, when some corporate execs snidely stated “nobody wants a mushy chocolate chip cookie” and yet someone persisted until “Soft Batch” became all the rage?

I like soft cookies. My MIL always bakes them rock hard because her husband liked them hard. And as I was typing, wife brought me a nice soft sugar cookie she just broke. Good.

Good Morning
It’s 50 in light rain, supposed to start clearing starting at noon through the evening.High of 55. Sunny tomorrow.

Stayed busy yesterday, but never got the driveway markers installed, (did get them, and the driver for them into the back of the Carryall), or the oil changed in the tractor. Maybe today.

One little thing that was annoying to me was that the media server for the FIOS would have to reboot when there was a power interruption and the generator started and transferred. I had an old APC 280w UPS with a dead battery, and some 12ah SLA batteries that were too big to fit in the case, so I extended the battery wires and used a battery that I had externally. Works like a charm. I already had a UPS on the TV, FIOS box, and receiver in our bedroom, so now if we are watching TV and the power goes out, it will go unnoticed. Definitely a first world concern, but it’s the implementation that I enjoy, I’m not even a big TV watcher.

Did sear the beef for the pot roast on the the grill and got it in the crock pot, the band was happy and well fed.

Was a good day overall regardless of what didn’t get accomplished.

Today is another day, I’ll see what I get done.

I need to bring my guitar by. Can’t play a lick, but I can eat.

I have 4 UPS now with dead batteries, seems like I’m changing batteries constantly.

I have a large Yukon furnace in the basement that takes huge pieces of wood that I fire up on very cold days. It also provides heat with the oil burner on shoulder days to get quick heat in the house.
The assignment to myself is to get a better mouse trap for the living room that will delay having to use the downstairs furnace and provide more comfort in the living room and not having to load as often

Our existing stove is a Jotul. Works fine but the firebox is too small for longer burns and it does not heat enough on very cold days. Firebox size should be around 3 cubic feet to hold enough wood and be able to load longer pieces like 20 to 22 inch would be great. The catalytic stoves are supposedly more efficient but I think it is only marginal more. Fresh air is good and will prevent some cold air from leaking into the room
Our Jotul, an F500 Oslo takes 24" logs...I rarely cut them that long due to the weight of the rounds before splitting, but do some smaller rounds. Never had a fire go out overnight...plenty of big coals to start the next morning. Our previous stove was a smaller Vermont Castings, nice but not nearly as efficient as the Jotul. Good luck in your search.

dropped off muffins at school in pouring rain, then headed to McDonalds for breakfast. Kid was polite, efficient and I told him nice job. He looked at me with a big smile.
Need to positively reinforce the good stuff. We sure get enough bad service to make up for it.

then off to nursing home rehab. Hit with heavy poop smell the further down the hallways I got, pretty dismal. At least MIL was fully with it, liked the food I brought her, and understands where she is. This is rehab part of her normal place so hoping they will move her back to regular room next week. But she will need some kind of an aide for awhile.
just sniffed my shirt to see if that smell was lingering...thankfully not.

rainy Saturday.

Good morning! 49 now, seems it is going to get cooler as the day progresses.

Yesterday was pure energy conservation. I hadn’t slept good the night before again. So did very little yesterday. Slept great last night. See what I can get into today.

We are going to a Christmas get together with the local AMCA chapter tonight.

Our wood burner is a fireplace insert. The house arrangement simply doesn’t allow a conventional wood burner. And the fireplace configuration limited us to an insert from Vermont Castings for fit. It is likely a little small for the house, but it does keep the furnace off unless it gets very cold out. When it is below 25, the furnace does occasionally run. But much less than not having the wood burner.

Everyone stay safe out there!

morning all, warmer, heavy rain.
Off to Long Island to see brothers new house and go to friends daughters wedding.
3 hour drive should be much, much longer with the rain.

TXDon - I should have suggested the volume, my dad did that once and thought his phone was broken.
We had him go to Geek Squad since he is a 6 hour flight away.

LS - hope it all works out ok, sometimes it's hard to find someone to talk things through.

Drew glad MIL is better and dentist visit fix problems, but so many $$$

Thomas - hope nothing too serious with car

Kilroy - the market is still open on 29, but changed ownership and some other minor changes to restaurant etc.

Got some driveway markers done, stakes in for bushes but no wrapped yet. Got dark too fast after work.

Be well,
