congrats on the new bike RNG, she's a beauty.

fun watching tree guys, whole thing done in a little over an hour, very professional, neat, cleaned as they went, no damage
to property. Now I have to go work on that snowball bush they dug up and make sure it is replanted properly.
they dropped the trunk right on their mats

77°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 97° today. 96° and 98° for the next two days before a storms roll in on Thursday to cool us back into the 80s.

Wife and I have been using a weighted blanket for the last couple of weeks. She decided she wanted to try one, so we did. I never really cared for it from the start, but she seemed to like it at first. She eventually noticed that it was always sliding off my side of the bed, mostly from her kicking it off several times through the night, and she was fighting it all night (as was I). Yesterday, it went away and was replaced with the original quilt. By comparison, it was like sleeping under a Kleenex tissue. (the weighted one was 20 lbs)

Kyle, this place is not likely to ever move. The owner started it here because he thought he would have a bottomless labor pool from the nearby neighborhoods. Unfortunately, the area has changed, and not for the better. He'll not be here much longer anyway, as he's been slowly phasing into retirement. I doubt his son will move it either.
I never really minded a long drive to work, probably because I've pretty much always had one. Living on the Illinois side of the area, most of the better-paying jobs are on the Missouri side. When I worked in St. Charles MO, I was driving 120 miles round trip every day. It's about 90 miles now. I does give me a chance to listen to a lot of music, though. And, I don't hate that.

Good-looking bike, RNG. Seems like flying and riding would be a hard option to pass. What year is it?

Good morning, gents.

Good morning to all! Low of 62°, going up to 86°, chance of a T-storm.
No rain last night, but a good light show off in the distance.

Drew, those tree service guys are amazing to watch bringing a tree down. You can hear those big chippers a long distance away. Were you keeping any of the chips?

RNG, nice score on the bike! My vote is to fly up there and ride back (y)

PopG, nice pic of the Stearman. Love the sound of those radial engines!

Today's agenda will include getting the planters filled as a priority. Then may get to start disassembling my daughter's Jeep. She brought it done a couple months ago for my son to repair the body work, but he has been too busy. I figured if I start on it, he'll "make the time" to help out.

Everyone have a great start to the week!

It's an '83. They only lasted two model years, '83 and '84. Maybe a thousand imported into the US, so they're not exactly common.

68°F and .09 inches rain.

My friend Keith experienced a mishap with his DX Friday.
IMG_5808.jpeg

Tractor located about 600 ft down slope, about 15°. Took about 3+ hours to get 5 of us (including my son) and John’s JD 2032 to ease it up the hill and another 300 ft to Keith’s shop area. Slow and steady, no mishaps in the hot sun. So glad it didn’t rain. While this is the kind of interaction many of us on GM take for granted, it was an unexpected, rare experience for my city living son who seems to have little life outside his work and immediate family. We made it home in time for fabulous lasagna dinner.

Semi annual Dental cleaning/check up to day.

In person happy hours this afternoon. I suspect a tale or too regaling yesterday’s recovery.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

76F and cloudy @ 12:00, heading up to a high of around 82F. WU now reports only a 50% chance of precipitation today, with 62% chance tonight. Looks like best chances are around 20:00.

Woman and I both got up late today (>11:00) I actually fell asleep on the couch last night ... woke up around 05:00 and got up and went to bed ... then slept in.

Ran over to HD first thing yesterday to pick up that 2 x 4 x 10. 10 footers were all at the back of rack which was 5'+ off the floor, had to get help to pull them forward. Got checked out, then loaded, and was just about out of the lot when I realized that I actually needed three 5' boards, not two ... 🤪

Pulled out and made the loop through Autozone's parking lot at the corner and got turned around and headed back into The Depot. Picked up an additional 2 x 4 x 8'. New on guy the register, transaction appeared not to go through, swiped card again, now appears that I got double billed for the 2 x 4 x 8 ... 🤬

When I got home neighbor was delivering another roll off of manure which ended up being the last one (he's keeping some which is a wise move IMO), volunteered that he could come down later with his dozer or tracked skid steer and pile it all up, since it would take me forever with the B2910. Great guy.

Refueled Kubota, 5 gallons pretty much fueled it up.

Moved boards for screener around back and got those cut, then moved up to shop.

Did a little more tilling, this time on the west side of the garden area.

Got mowing done all down around the house, west, east, and south.

Hopper feeder and 1 suet feeder refilled.

Scheduled a bill for payment.

Broke for dinner, more clean up on the Wasabi Express.

Young neighbor who used to help me quite a bit stopped by, seems he has gotten his contractor's license and insurance, formed an LLC, and gone into business for himself ... (y) Hooked him up with a bunch of squash. Also found out his grandfather who helped me with the Kubota is in the hospital, and not doing too well.

After that went up to shop and started drilling and screwing the new frame for the screener together.

Somewhere in all of that, neighbor showed and got all the manure piled up.

Got the frame for the new screen all screwed together by the time it got dark.

Probable agenda for today:

Contact HD about the double billing.

Handle some banking.

Remove tiller from Kubota and put on box blade, do some additional clean up and fine tuning around compost/manure pile.

Later, when it starts raining, get the 1/4" crown stapler from the basement and take it up to the shop and start stapling the 1" hardware cloth onto the screener frame.

Plus whatever else comes up.

Hope everyone has a great Monday ... (y)

Darn pup loves water and when it saw it raining he just had to make some mud. Does he look guilty?

Our first boxer was an all white male. Loved the water. Take him to a lake or shore and he was in. When wife would take him for a walk after a rain he would come home covered in red Georgia mud from all the puddles. Sophie thought it more hilarious than I.probably as I would be the one to hose him down.

Nice looking bike, RNG. Bet the fly & ride option is very tempting.

My friend Keith experienced a mishap with his DX Friday.
A similar thing happened to the old Kubota when the hub broke out of one of the front axles. I got it back to the garage by lifting the front end slightly with the bucket and dragging it in reverse. Not pretty, but it beats trying to hitch it to the pickup truck with a chain...

Thanks. I've always been a sucker for red.

I have one U-Ship quote for $537, which is not very tempting. I can make the run myself in two days for not much more than that in fuel, and do it on my own schedule. A fly'n'ride would end up costing about $400, plus a motel room if I don't make it back in a single day, which wouldn't be a surprise expecially on a machine of unknown condition. I have contact info for a shipping outfit a friend used a while ago, and will get in touch with them and then make up my mind. But between the inconvenience and horrors using a shuttle to get to the airport and of air travel (I haven't been on a plane since I retired, and don't miss it at all), the risk of a breakdown and the resulting high recovery costs, and the discomfort of riding an unfaired bike 700 miles in sizzling summer weather, the fly'n'ride would be my least favorable option.

wasn't this supposed to be an active hurricane season? WHERE ARE THEY!

be careful what you ask for...
one inch of rain every Wednesday night would be nice right?
Actually I think the only ones that would not welcome a tropical disturbance would be the Texas beach house owners.

We are getting close to 60 - 100˚ days this year and according to Buppies we will easily beat the record of 91 days unless we can attract a lingering tropical depression.

Wednesday and Thursday are suppose to be our ultra days of heat when warnings will be issued. Temps expected in the 106˚ range. I just saw where our town has banned home car washing but not at commercial car washes. I can't figure out how that saves water. My water hose cuts off when the handle is not squeezed and last time I washed the truck the rinse water never made it down my short driveway. This has actually been in effect for 2 weeks and a quick memory check confirmed I did not do a violation wash.

Got to go, the news headline is "New central Texas water restrictions".

   / Good morning!!!! #153,955
My understanding is that almost all automatic car washes recycle their water Don. It's one reason it smells a little funky...
But what we used to call "quarter" car washes, which now cost many dollars just to turn the things on, all that water likely goes down the floor drain.

106 degrees is nuts, that's Death Valley weather
sure hope your power stays on and pets are ok

Good late (Tuesday) morning. A very blustery night, however the Low was only 10C. Rain from yesterday left 1.7mm in the gauge. It's presently 14C, calm and clear.

Just a few small twigs/branch-ends down from the wind, but I'll need to make a 'patrol' around the property to make sure.

Missed a call from our Minister (the one whom I'm manning the Church Shed for) yesterday, but did catch his call this morning. He's back from his vacation and the Church's 'forwarded' number has been switched from my mobile. I'll meet up with him tomorrow @1000 to brief him on what's gone on whilst he's been away... plus, probably, load my ute up with the two 'dumped' armchairs and take them to the tip.

That's about it, take care all.

Good evening. We had 2 back to back storms come across, dropped 3/4" in about an hour. Still sprinkling, so maybe a little more in the gauge. Lost power a couple times, but only for a few seconds.

Timing was perfect for the storms.... I got the planters filled with the tractor, then decided to move my stockpile of dirt to a more convenient spot, plus that will clear the area where more gravel is going. The dirt pile was right in the middle of our proposed 'turn around' for the drive.

9B704757-7A18-4537-9C95-9E97DA39E368.jpeg842A3E37-A3A4-466B-BBF9-262DAB515754.jpeg

I was surprised that they took 2 packed buckets to fill, so essentially 2/3 of a yard in each. The dirt pile took a lot longer to move, about 20 bucketfuls. I'm guessing about 6 yards left in the pile.

It was nice to get some seat time doing something constructive. Tomorrow, I'll switch hats and become a mechanic.... did some research for parts to fix the Jeep, about $500 worth. Need to take it apart to make sure no hidden damage before I order everything.

Grilled some boneless center cut chops on the grill, accompanied by grilled 'taters and corn. Time to go share some ice cream with Max.

Good evening all. 82ºF for the start, overcast, light breeze, trace rain in rain gauge. light wind, gusts up to 20, period of drizzle in morning, clearing sky in afternoon, high temp was 98ºF, HI 101ºF. Bike ride in morning, mowed back after lunc, then had nap. Grilled brats for dinner.
Buppies sorry so little rain.
Doug Sounds like a fun 1 1/2 days.
Randy thanks for the explanation. I was trying to make it some kind of holiday.
Scaredy I thought you had a bunch of eggs to hatch
Doug guilty as sin :)
Drew nice rain. hope you get the blood work done. Congrats on weight loss. Good to hear no alligator bite.
Buppies hope you get more rain.
Dennis really nice rain. hope mowing goes well.
Billy hope you enjoyed you conserve energy day.
Buppies not seeing anything to break the pattern either.
Paul gret pic and story. Hope meeting with FAA went well. and pressure washer worked with problem.
Don our average temp drops to 93ºF by end of August, wife and I laughed at that. Hope your lawn has it to last till tomorrow.
Drew nice tomatoes, sorry about the noise.
Drew we need the hurricanes to move out the entrenched high pressure that keeps us so hot.
Ken hope the spraying helps, glad dog cooperated a bit.
RNG congrats on new bike, looks nice. Hope you find phone cable with creating problems.
Drew did not realize tree was in power lines. Glad it did not take tem long.
PJ glad heat will leave soon. nice story about blanket. We looked at moving the business from Grand and Broadway to St Charles county, the larger punch presses would be down for weeks during move. The only way to justify cost was no expansion at current location, business dropped 20 % and plans scrapped.
Ted hope you can get planters filled. Hope the start o the jeep will bring help :)
David pic does not look good, glad no rain during recovery. And the tales gets better each retelling :)
RS nice neighbor cleaned up manure for you as well. sorry to hear about young neighbor's grandfather.
David nice story
RNG too bad bike may not ready to ride. That's what you need, another project :)
Buppies hope you have trail cam on bear vs skeleton :)
Don when I wash cars, I park on the lawn so water not wasted :)
Drew thanks for info on car wash. Fortunately we only get to 103ºF :)

RNG - nice bike (sometimes I wish that I could ride) ... perhaps a trike one day. Is Drive & Tow an option ?

We have a real chore trying to register any vehicle from out of the Province of BC. Not worth the hassle, inspection etc, so now I buy vehicles that are already registered in the Province. Oddly, almost any other Province can accept a BC vehicle basically hassle free.

daugen - dropping a tree is an artform (that skill I do not have)

PJSprog - I used to have a lengthy commute also, don't miss that at all. Now my commute is about 30 feet, from office to coffee pot :) . A weighted blanket has been suggested for me, but I can't stand it.

sodamo - that's a tractor owie, but I hope that it is an easy fix for Keith

rswyan - sounds like a busy day, lots to do. sorry to hear that the grandfather is struggling

mostly_gas - the egg hatching struggle has occurred all Spring / Summer. The incubator was not reliable, so poor results there, so far. There are several broody hens still, on a few eggs each. The hatch dates are staggered, so the next few days to a week, will be important. This year the hens are doing a better job than the incubator.

that's about all the excitement for now
