Speaking about coyotes. I saw one out across the field last week when I was mowing the lane. I told my wife about it. She called her sister. Now they carry bear spray when they walk the puppy.

Last night I thought I heard yipping and then squealing out in the front yard. I was imagining a coyote thinning the rabbit population. Do you think my wife will be carrying bear spray when we walk?

without admitting guilt, ha, Stellatlantis just agreed to a fine of $300M for emissions cheating. They bought the same Bosch cheater software controls that VW used, in their
ecodiesel trucks. A real corporate black eye for Bosch too. They all got caught cheating.
The EU is very strict in many places on emissions, not just here.
check out the use of EV cars by country:

  • Norway. 81.0.
  • Iceland. 36.8.
  • Sweden. 20.6.
  • Netherlands. 10.7.
  • Germany. 8.5.
  • United Kingdom. 6.7.
  • France. 6.5.
  • United States. 5.2.
Scandinavia was always a cold area I thought, not ideal for EV batteries.
I'd really like to have the plug in version of the Volvo I have now. 40 mile range would
take care of 95% of my driving. Plus regular gas engine for long trips.

I loved my Golf TDI. I didn't love dealing with VW. They were not honest folks. Germans seem to have a problem with that.
Only car diesel I've owned. Having owned for 13 years a pair of Detroit 8V71TI's, which put out the sweetest bellow at cruise, I have satisfied
all my diesel itches. Never thought the diesel engines in my equipment sounded very interesting.
Japanese engines from Kubota, Yanmar and Iseki. Massey engines from India and China.
More like how much of a knock and clatter they made when cold.
Perhaps why they call an unattractive car engine sound "agricultural". ?

but then we know the sound of a tractor engine usually means good times

We no longer have our old Great Pyrenees that kept the coyotes away
After we had our beloved stray Whipper DNA tested we were surprised she had Great Pyrenees in her. On the farm she was good about keeping the coyotes away. Now she keeps them off the golf course. You can tell she is on the lookout for them all the time. We still recognize her coyote bark but since the move she no longer howls like a coyote. She is losing her bilingual abilities.

Morning all, once again some surprise morning rain. As of last night was not supposed to start until after noon.
Got a lot of logs moved and some of the back lower field mowed. Area I cleared out is still a bit wet, looks like that won't change with >.5" of rain tonight, wonder how much above that we will get since weather "forecasters" have been so completely off in their rain forecasts, sometime by inches!

Got new tires on the wife's car and the tire pressure sensor started leaking, didn't find out til next morning. Pumped up the tire, took it in and they were nice enough to fix the seal and send us on our way in 30minutes or so. Happy with the new place so far.

Was going to take a tree down in the lower area, but may need to rethink it's path as there are some trees that may get hit/squashed. Rain not making me feel like it. Though I got both saw prepped last night.
Maybe Powerwash the rear deck and stop at pool supply place later.

I did PM Eric, have not heard back :( Hope he is ok.

The kids are all traumatized, With the local shooting and they are growing up hearing about all these school shootings this decade. I won't stress my opinion, but this just does not happen in other countries at the rate it does here in the US. We have an awful system for helping those with mental issues as well.

Stay safe and be well,

Moving day, Moved about 10 logs from 6' to 10' long. Thumb is working great.

Good Morning.
It’s 65 and won’t get above 70. Overcast and sprinkling now, will continue through the day, escalating to thunderstorms by late afternoon and evening.

The spring retrieval was successful, after draining the oil from the transmission, the bore scope did the trick.

It has both a magnet and hook attachments for jobs like this.

Trip to Martha’s Vineyard was uneventful, had a nice lunch at the airport restaurant there, but by the time I got home and collected the trash and recycling to get the cans to the street, the day was over.

Today will be a mix of chores and cleanup, music tonight if all goes well. No outside work in the rain.

67 going to 78 and threat of t-storms and tornado watch posted for mid-day.

Wag, sorry about your chickens...the one time we tried chickens we lost 7 bantams in one night to foxes/coyotes. We've noticed since our Chesapeake Bay Retriever died, more predators (and more rabbits/squirrels/chipmunks) are coming near the house. We're about ready to love a new a dog. It's been 11 months.

My wife (at the last minute) decided to accompany me yesterday to Costco to get my free tire rotation/balancing when they opened the tire center at 8am yesterday. That led to a shopping trip...we went inside and picked up some things, including new cell phones...our old ones were 8 years old, and would only run Android 6...several apps no longer worked, like the banking app, the Virginia DWR app, and my hiking app. Costco was running a special of $200 off. Wow...the new phones and Android 12 are so much better.

Had a nice lunch at the Tex-Mex, went to a couple more stores and got home before 1pm. My wife was impressed how much we got done and still had all afternoon at home.

Water pressure here was good when I first got up, but then dropped to a trickle went I went to wash my hands...crawled under the house and found no obvious isses...but our submersible pump is 21 years old...so call to the plumber an hour ago. Shaping up to be an expensive week.

We're all older gents and settled in our world perspectives...I can't even imagine that I could post something here that would change your minds about guns, religion, inflation, abortion, illegal aliens, letting criminals out of jail with no strings/no bail, climate, or CNN and other media lies. These things are on our minds since they are thrown in front of us each day, but presented in such divisive ways to generate power or income, not to solve anything.

Just trying to learn more about rural living, and appreciate that you take time to share your experiences. Thank you.

I have a MF on that platform, I love it! I don’t have a backhoe, but I would only use it a couple times a year so I didn’t spend the money. I love playing with them though.

64F, wet, and mostly cloudy @ 10:00. Heading up to a high of around 73F or so with showers or a possible thunderstorm later this afternoon. Got 0.37" of rain yesterday, plus another 0.52" since midnight ... so things are well watered at this point. Sun now peeking through.

Ten Day is showing five nice days after today, with a heat bump into high 80's/low 90's on Monday and Tuesday followed by a couple days of rain and more normal temps.

Hopper feeder needs refilled, so that is likely the first thing on the agenda. Probably put out half an orange while I'm at it.

After that head up to the shop and get back to working on the Kubota. I need to check the wear on the front axle pivot bushings so they can be ordered if need be. I don't have an inside mic to measure a bore so will probably try and see if just doing it by feel will yield some enlightenment.

Both bushings (front and rear) are only around $35 - $40 total so it might make sense to go ahead and replace them, particularly given that I'm replacing both o-ring seals. OTOH, the bushings are press-fit and the old ones would have to be chiseled out and new ones pressed in ... so if it isn't really needed, it's some expense + time + hassle to go through for perhaps negligible benefit.

I did take the front pivot housing containing the bushing into the dealer last time and had the service guy look at it. There is perhaps some visual evidence of wear but it didn't appear to be significant. Service guy didn't offer much in the way of an opinion, other than suggesting the method for removal (cold chisel) and saying that they could install the new ones if I opted to go that route.

If I need a break from all that fun I might come back down to the house and start potting some of the bare root plants that came in yesterday.

Hope everyone has a great Friday ... (y)
