That's a shame, Ted. I tried to eat there at least one night every trip I made there. Did they close their liquor store, too? I usually did takeout, and would go over there to snag a couple beers while my order was being prepared.
Yep, the whole place, including the liquor store. It was quite a surprise, they always did a good amount of business.

My father sold his corvair when we moved out to the suburbs (I remember it was black). then bought a new 67 VW bug.
When that got too rusty (front suspension, wheel came off in a turn!) he bought a really nice 72 bug, and my brother had a semi-auto bug and later on a Kharmann Ghia.
I used to sleep behind the back seat on long trips in my dads first bug.
I remember that you did not get heat until you were going for a while, as long as it wasn't too cold out :)

I learned how to drive in a VW bug up in MA on the farm roads when I was 13.
Could drive from my uncles area to North Adams (about 10-15 miles) on dirt roads through farms and never see a state/county road.

You guys keep me reminiscing.

Eric Salop said, "Am I too late to enter the most expensive fuel competition ? Pump prices here showing petrol at the equivalent of of $1.99 a litre - $7.53 per US gallon "

I filled my 2017 Ford Escape today at Buc-ee's with regular gasoline that cost $3.299 a gallon. That's the most I've paid for gas in this car, and I think it's the most I've paid for gas in my life.

didn't those old VWs have two little levers on the floor?
One for air flow and one for heat regulation. Hah.
We had a 66 1300.
with studded snow tires it was unstoppable in the winter.
But you never got warm

Wow, Eric, those are some steep prices! Our gas (petrol to you foreign guys) was $3.14 / gal when I filled up this morning. I feel lucky......

For you guys that have been to Albuquerque, the news reported that an Albq. landmark / icon is permanently closing its doors------- Quarters BBQ.
They always had good food and great customer service. They can't survive the decreased business caused by restrictions of you know what.....

WOOHOO! Shop has power! No sparks, no fire, power tools work.... I guess I did the install correctly. Wifey already mentioned a bunch of projects need some attention....
Gas was $3.09 down the street when I filled up about 20 minutes ago.

Diesel yesterday was $4.04.

My '74 was a semi-auto, Ken. Man, that was a good-running car. Traded it for a '77 BMW 320i in 1985. That thing turned out to be a money pit.

Most I ever paid was $4.509/gal back in 2011. I was spending about $100/week for gasoline for my Jeep Liberty. I remembered thinking if I wasn't making aerospace money, I wouldn't be able to afford to go to work every day. Fortunately, that price didn't last too long.

I had to fill my pickup up today at $3.659 and that was with a discount of $0.10.
Several other stations at $3.799, diesel at $4.299. $80.00 to fill the pu.

My only VW was a 74 or 75 VW Thing, Type 181 it had the gas heater in it fortunately.
Drove that across Wyoming the winter of 75-76 had frost inside in many locations, that soft top and plastic windows didn't insulate it very well the best part was leaving the heater going while inside getting meals and coffee sitting still it would warm up a bit.

My VW was a 55 and had the small back window, and traficators. No petrol heaters. they were removed before sale. Best trick was running through a ford (the sort with water in it (but I dunno))If you flattened the accelerator just as you hit the water that "massive" acceleration would lift the front above the water and with the flat underside it would plane almost to the other side of the river. With the loss of forward motion the back would sink, water would get to the cylinders and the whole care would fill with steam through the heater vents. :p

-3° right now...high in the lower 20's today.
Up early with intentions to go to work...but wifey was not doing too good yesterday and achy all over. If stepdaughter stays home, I'll go in a bit late. Otherwise, it's a remote day.
I do need to make a dump run sometime this week to get rid of a bunch of boxes...maybe today, maybe not...

Good morning, -2°F and going to a balmy 14. Wind N 6 mph. Sunny!

I got my second alligatoritus poke yesterday and my left are is a bit sore, but so far other than that I feel fine. I haven't started growing a second head yet and I still have all my digits and limbs, unlike the kids that were born after their mothers took Thalidomide. Maybe that will come later.

A town run is in the cards for today, other than that conserve energy.

Have a safe day all

Good morning! 36˚F heading to the 70s.

Looks like the below $3 gasoline is gone in Texas, on the road trip to mom's yesterday the price ranges from $3.09 to $3.29 per gallon.

Potatoes sprout when the soil temp is above 50˚. I'm anxious to get them in the ground so the late spring vegetable can be planted after potato harvest. I'll take a chance and plant potatoes today which is about a week early for this area.
