One problem is how well the present vaccines work against variants. Dr Osterholm is concerned that the British variant may cause a third wave in April. I have heard that we may have to have booster shots every 6 months to a year to stay ahead of the mutations. Our county is setting up a mass vaccination site in an empty mall department store. It is supposed to run for 6 weeks and cost 20 million. Yikes.

That痴 a good argument for getting one dose in more people. The larger the pool of immunized people the less likely it is to spread.

I agree. But the Ontario government doesn't. So it will be two here for now. However, they did stretch the interval between doses from 27 days to 35 days.

I'm not sure it is quite that simple ... given that polio and measles viruses both mutate as well ...

Seems like other factors may play a role.

Nonetheless, the entire subject of immunity is rather fascinating ... and it is pretty amazing how much our understanding has increased in a little more than 100 years.

Interesting that these new deadly viruses seem to start from animals in other countries and jump to humans.

Rained again all night, 3/4” this round, temps hovering around 33. Looks like another cold weekend before warmer days next week.

Pulled the swivel out of my air hose reel and put new nitrile o-rings on it, got a small WiFi extender to see if it will help in the garage and shop. Bought the wrong regulator for my gas heater in the shop, not paying attention I got one that converts the little portable camping grills from 1lb tank to 20 lb. so I have to swap that.

Grocery pick up later today.
I’m about tired of cold rain, but it beats what you guys in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma are dealing with.

Me too Randy, I bought the wrong combiner for my gas tanks because the connectors
were different than expected. They should color code those fittings, yellow to yellow, red to red...

Common sense says we would be better off with 70% of the population getting one dose, than 35% getting two doses. I’m due for my second shot in a week if the plan holds up, but I still believe twice as many people with 92% immunity is better than half with 95% immunity.

One concern of limiting the public to one vaccine dose is that the immunity is not as complete and does not last as long...which leads to variants of the virus.

It makes me recall the instructions when an antibiotic is prescribed...to finish the entire prescription, even if you feel well, since the illness can return, even stronger, if not completely killed.

It makes me recall the instructions when an antibiotic is prescribed...to finish the entire prescription, even if you feel well, since the illness can return, even stronger, if not completely killed.

Yeah...ever wonder how many people actually do just that? Complete the entire dose.

Kind of makes you wonder, since new super strains of stuff are out there and you hear that medicine is down to their last "silver bullets" fighting certain things.
