Good morning, the temp is 36°F and going up to 61. Wind E 15 mph. Increasing cloudiness.

I didn't turn the compost pile yesterday, so I will do it today.

I did get both chimneys cleaned and re-certified (W.E.T.T.). $250.oo
I do this every year and that way IF something should go to pot, then the insurance company can't blame the wood stoves and weasel out of paying.

I might go over to the neighbours' place today and see what I can do about the exhaust on his Massey. He has a rotted off grass burner exhaust that is gassing him out every time he starts it.

We had a ham for thanksgiving with stuffing balls, roasted potatoes, a sweet potato for me and brussel sprouts.
I have a half a pig coming for some of our pork for the winter. 1/4 of beef is also coming from the same source as the ham.

The rain started about dark last night. It's still raining this morning. It makes for good sleeping. It has been dry so we welcome the rain. I mowed Friday. Lots of dust. I picked up a lot of corn litter that had blown onto the lawn. The farmer has done something but I'm not sure what. Probably planted barley but the ground seems more disturbed. We will see what comes up. Local peaches are over. I never want it to end but the late peaches aren't quite as good as the mid season peaches.

I hope you are all getting by through these strange times.

Ron, I think I can almost see the USA flag on the moon with that great Ronshot.

Did a 5.5 mile hike in the drizzle and wore myself out...so watched some recorded shows with my precious wife yesterday afternoon (hoped it would put me in nap mode, but no luck).

Eric, I've had the opposite happening lately...watching it rain early, and then as it gets light enough to go out and feed the birds, it slacks off. Maybe we'll switch next year. What's the average precipitation in your area? We have 116 days with at least some precip, and average 110.7cm.

Bill, 99 percent of time they have to pay no matter what. Only way to weasel is "increase in hazard" whereby you put something seriously stupid in
wood stove, like gasoline...or flammable chemical soaked rags. What they can do is not renew your policy, or take you off the discounted pricing track.
If you use your fireplace/woodstove pretty constantly, yes excellent idea to get it cleaned every year, simply for peace of mind. Wood stove chimney fires can
be very exciting...

Good morning all,51 going up to 56 and lots of rain, over an inch so far. more to come.

Met the hunter and his grand kids from my next door neighbors land-nice folk-came all the way from Lancaster to hunt here. Asked him if they ran out of deer there He said we all got the deer here .

Got the lawn tractor deck greased and the blades somewhat sharpened and did the last mow and mulched up a huge amount of leaves.
Then went and removed some larger bushes using the tooth bar, rips them right out, had to be 10-12 feet tall.
Split some more big rounds into firewood and cleaned out some tree parts from the area I need to finish clearing.
Then off to Peddlars village with the family and dog in tow for a beer.
Bought some bayer bug poison that is supposed to kill EAB and put a whole bottle around the roots of an ash that I am trying to save, probably won;t work, but at $10/bottle it's worth a try

Drew - Welcome home ! that Giant has everything as they cater to a large area that was poorly server by any other market, and also to the throngs of people who come to New Hope and Lambertville (Which no longer has a supermarket).
There is a brand new Mcaffreys across the street, but it makes Giant look cheap.Between the two of them you can find almost anything you will need.
True value is next to Mccaffreys and they are good to deal with. There are more stores and a bunch of new restaurants in Newtown. That village in Newtown has been growing leaps and bounds, there is an ACE hardware store there.

Thanks Ken. I will go to McCaffreys next, and understand they are a boutique/upmarket market, though Giant is also very nice and likely larger.
I went to school with Micky Flood, owner of the Ace Hardware in the McCaffrey's shopping center, so it was nice to support his business. Anything he owns is well run and spotless.

HVAC/plumber just out, Young & Bowman from Doylestown, very nice people and they figured out how to fix the constantly running heater motor. There was an unmarked rocker switch right on the burner and I feel badly I didn't see it but a cheap service call. They will be back to put a new "comfort" height toilet in bathroom, tiny thing in there now and almost threw my back out using it.
One of the guys was Y&B family, and when I told them they were our plumbers on the farm back in the 50's, oh you dealt with my grandfather, very cool.

Comcast guy hard at work stringing lines, nice he will run ethernet directly to my office pc so I can get full speed, plus he is running a new line to guest bedroom for tv there. Which likely will never be used but... Soon, off goes the MIFI. :thumbsup:

Drew, that dinner looked great. Glad you are getting settled in. Smoke detectors are a must! Along with CO2 detectors if there are any fossil fuel burners present.

Rich, hope your trip goes uneventfully and the fix works as planned.

I saw on our local news here this morning about a "hairy caterpillar" showing up in a bunch of counties in WV. It looks like a miniaturized hamster. Apparently it is also venomous from a bunch of spines on its underside. They showed a woman with a big welt on her arm. They did not say what larvae it is.

Not sure what I will get into today... probably just putter about like Thomas... I just wish our place was like Thomas' park like setting!
I may go into town for the metal for the trailer. The wifey has a few little honey-do items, so might take care of those.

AQI 14 and 22, inside and out. That's gonna do it for the AQI reports unless there's more fire nearby. The possibility of that increases enough by Wednesday that PG&E is warning of possible power shutoffs through the end of the week.:mur:

Dinner looks delicious, Drew. You're off to a fine start in your new home! Ethanol has a lower energy content than gasoline, and I've experienced as much as a 20% mileage penalty when using it, especially on the motorcycles.

Last time I had the RTV down near the water, Kyle, it got stuck up to the axles and I had to pull it out with the tractor and 40' of chain. Would have been a huge fine had I been caught by the park police. This time of year the lake is so low there's about 150' of bare earth between the tree line and the water, so no real need for a boat. But I have almost that much clearance at the house, and hoses, so not much chance I'd risk the hike down to the lake in an emergency.

I'm hoping that helmet stays on the shelf, too, Ted.

Turnout pants showed up yesterday, David. They're big enough to go on over my blue jeans! Free returns with Amazon Prime. You'd never know there was a shipping container behind that wall. Nice job!

Made enough room on the workbench and welding table yesterday to start putting the newest-to-me road bike back together yesterday. The parts washer got a workout and I even got the rings gapped and on the pistons. Gonna be nice reclaiming some floor space from where all that stuff has been resting for more than a year.
