Yes, the salt content is high..... I am sure there are a bunch of other nasties in it also..... you only live once right?. When I was a kid, it was practically a Saturday morning staple....

Now there is this stuff called "Scrapple" .... THAT, I cannot eat.... can't even stand the smell of it cooking.... my sisters loved it.

Too funny, Ted.
I know what scrapple is, but there was a jersey diner that I almost always ordered it for breakfast. Fried with a nice crust.
As for the Pork Roll, we shared our meals generously with the dogs (after the company left of course), found it just OK, nothing special.
SPAM, that’s a local, in Hawaii favorite and we usually have a can or 2 in the pantry. Can even get it at Mickey D’s breakfast.

Not a highly productive day. Watched some football, got yesterday’s lumber nailed together.
Grilled a couple of ribeyes, along with possibly the end of our corn, marinated tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, and air fryer eggplant fries.
Just gonna take it easy rest of the day.

Mostly, a bit strange to me as well. Apparently, Spam and Macaroni salad were two staples back in WWII. Amazing to me to see the Spam displays in the stores. Vienna sausages another. As I understand it, Spam was the most readily available protein, macaroni was used to supplement potatoes.

68 right now...high in the mid-70's today

Well, sold the 4520...no complaints about the deal and I got all cash.
Thanks to another TBN member (you know who you are!), I got invaluable information about the Kioti I was looking at. Turns out, it's not a 2011 model...it's a 2001 model. Don't think the seller was trying to rip me off...good chance he got ripped off when he bought the machine a year ago.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do...other then keep looking.

The grass is white over with frost this morning for the first time this autumn. Fortunately only did a small amount of pointing yesterday, so was able to cover it with a 4'x8' sheet of insulation. Much quieter now the swallows have left, hope a robbin will soon take over the early morning sing song.

I patched some cracks in my Muck boots yesterday...really need waterproof boots this time of year since the grass is thick and so wet with dew every morning. I opened a tube of Aquaseal...supposed to use for my waders, but hoping it will work on these boots.

Wng, I have had limited success using Aquaseal on welly boots. It lasted more than long enough to get a new pair, however after a few months it gradually peeled away, partially I think because it is doesn't flex as much as rubber. Also it doesn't bond well if silicon spray has been periodically used on the rubber to keep it from cracking, so last time I used even more glass paper to remove the top layer of rubber - and ended up with an even bigger hole to fix !

good morning all. Warm morning, 68 out now, light rain last night was not expected but cleared out now and up to mid 80's today.
I'm off to urologist this morning over in Washington, get my prescription for Flomax renewed (BPH) and ask him about what I can do about "frequency".
The joys of getting older........

Yes, the salt content is high..... I am sure there are a bunch of other nasties in it also..... you only live once right?.
I'd say that will be today's understatement. I too grew up with parents who loved to fry scrapple on Sunday morning, and being from PA we sure had Taylor Pork Roll, which
I thought tasted like really interesting spicy sausage. But gosh, read the labels...Taylor Pork Roll is seriously full of nitrites and nitrates and that funny burgundy color comes from chemicals, not
natural. And scrapple? It must be 75% fat. Two of the most unhealthy things one can eat. Plus scrapple has to be cooked crispy to not be gross and that cooking adds cancer causing issues all by itself. If I were offered some at a friend's home I think I would take one bite to remind me what it tasted like (scrapple is often peppery which I like) and then hide the rest. Pork roll is often served with cheese so the total fat grams is simply off the chart. I think I'd rather get my fat from a nice juicy burger, not that stuff...

The issue is do you want to be sick while you live or be healthy and pain free without a ton of prescription pills taken every day? If so, foods like these are the IEDs of the food world.
How many times can your Hummer drive over one before it stops humming?...

Had a nice zoom meeting with my sister last night, she was tuckered out from having grandkids over for much of the day and playing down on the beach. She has always been immensely supportive of me and I love her dearly. I just wish she wasn't 3000 miles away while I hate flying.

Hope you all have a good start to the week.

Mixed news about tractor Roy. Maybe Kioti seller would reset price based on the updated knowledge. Good luck regardless.

Warm and humid today. 68 already. Rain in the forecast for the next 3 days.

Redneck: I believe that tree is a sugar maple.

First cup of coffee has been poured. 60° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 55° with PM rain. Already have had high temperature for the day. Checked all eavestroughs and downspouts on house and garage yesterday. Found some painting to do . Primed and painted NG pipes to house and shop. Need to clean those area's up today. Then conserve energy for rest of the day. Did fly drone. Little early for fall color pictures.

Also had a blackbird attack at feeders yesterday.

Roy, good you sold old tractor. Sorry about tractor you wanted to purchase. Hope you find a good one to replace it.

LS, all this talk about pork rolls and spam. Never been a fan of either. My breakfast yesterday breakfast was topped off with Canadian Bacon.

Drew, I made the mistake of having a glass of wine while on Flomax. Good thing I did not have to drive home that day.

Everyone be safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

65 going to 81...last chance to get some outside work done before days of predicted rain...up to 3 inches.

Eric, I guess I got my boots fixed just in time to give them a good test. Thanks for the tips on patching. These boots are worn out, so the patches won't have to last too long. I just have to bite the bullet and buy another pair...not cheap...these are neoprene tops and thick insulated bottoms...been my hunting boots, then my everyday boots when my other uninsulated ones died. Finding a good boot and wearing them comfortably is a pleasure in life...so it's hard to part with these.

Thomas, great Boo stories...but also really cool to hear of your moose encounter. My wife and I walked up on a mama moose and her calf one time...was a scary experience.

Ron, your place is really beautiful...those trees show a lot of color potential. We have flocks of cowbirds at our bird feeders now.

Roy, congrats on selling your JD. Hope you get a replacement soon.

Well, enjoyed watching the last Oriole game of the year yesterday. Just wished they had played as well all season as my Fantasy teams...that season is now over, too, so I gain some time back each day.

Never dried out yesterday, so need to mow today...got a bit of pruning done, but need to do more today.

Both my wife and late wife love scrapple, it’s like a chitterling patty to me! It is gross.
I love fried bologna but I don’t eat either anymore, same with Spam, even the low sodium version has a ton of sodium and fat.

68-82 today, then a cooling trend starts after tomorrow. Got rain much of yesterday along with sunshine, two in a row like that. My grass isn’t too bad but I know it’s fall, the wild onions are popping up in back.
Hope everyone has great day.

when I drive North from VA end of next week, will be going up 81 to PA turnpike and then heading East.
Am hoping the colors will be out and it will be a pretty drive
going this direction takes half an hour longer than going up 95, well worth it to me

63F and partly cloudy @ 06:30, heading up to a high of 80F.

Mix of clouds and sun this morning, mostly cloudy by 13:00, rain chances approaching 50% by 17:00, then 100% by 20:00 and tapering off after that. Expecting around 1/2" of rain, thunder possible.

The Woman got all the variegated hosta clumps that had been dug out from around the shop a couple of weeks ago split and cleaned yesterday. They are sitting in a bucket of water waiting to be planted later today. Need to clean up all the dirt that came off of them and haul that up and run it through the soil screen to mix it in with compost.

She and I also got some of solid green hosta we got from our friend planted as well. Still a few more of those to go though.

I also ran several bucketloads compost/dirt through the soil screener. Might do a few more of those today, and try to get area behind west planting bed seeded with shade grass.

Hauled down multiple loads of mulch and spread on west planting bed:

IMG_0587 copy.jpg

Have more to do on that today, but not until she gets her daffodils and tulips planted.

Pruned rhododendron in west planting bed.

Cut five bars of Irish Spring in half after we came in. Need to drill those and hang them today.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...
