Good morning all , 57 going up to 76 and sunny/hazy
Tried to dig more along the pool lines, using the planting auger (30") , this went reasonably well once I evicted the frog living in the current tunnel.
Well over three feet under the pool shack, but no luck finding leak so far.

Drew - will take your advice on the tomatoes-have tried some fertilizers and plant with miracle grow soil...need to check soil PH too I guess. Hope the headache goes away soon. That Yamaha cost as much as my wifes 2 year old BMW!
Sodamo - sorry to hear about Duncan-in MA neighbors all had workhorses-they had stalls in the barn and were treated well after they could not work anymore. So glad to hear Duncan had a good last year.

Friend in Arkansas is ok, pictures of the common pier destroyed, Boats banged up and trees missing. Might be a while before they get power back.

I found the hitch on my
rtv 400, which was a light duty model only, didn't stick out far enough and always wondered when
I would ruin the muffler with the trailer
I had a 6x12 single axle utility trailer that worked great with mine, but just had to be sure not to overload it.

I can't imagine having one of these without a dump body, unless one was just having fun out in a national park
Honestly this model is overkill for most folks. I paid 8 grand for my Kubota...
John Deere and Kubota also have high end models but this one looks the fastest and the dash is very cool.

These are all over out here they ride them in the woods as well as at the Sand Dunes!

66F and mostly cloudy @ 12:00, winds out of the NNE @ 10 - 15, high only predicted to reach 68F ... so another "long pants day" for sure.

Low chances (<25%) of precipitation throughout the 10 Day ... so probably a good time to get things done in areas that will become a mess once the rain comes. Hopefully there will be a day in there somewhere where there are no - or light - winds so I can do some spraying.

Got two rhododendrons moved and transplanted yesterday, one in the east planting bed (left side):

... and one in the northeast planting bed, along the path over to the barn:

There are another four pre-drilled planting holes in that bed that can be filled.

Heard neighbor out mowing yesterday so I headed up to talk to him ... he had some trees come down in a storm a while back, and I just wanted to clarify what wood he said I could have, because he's got a lot of it sitting up there. Long story short: any of it ... :thumbsup:

There's a good amount of oak and ash ... and some of the oak logs are huge - 24" or better in diameter and probably 10' long or more. Wish I had a bandsaw mill ... :laughing:

Also found out I can have any of the wood chips (for mulch) and there's a snot load of those as well.

Need to refill bird feeders today.

Whistle pigs out grazing in the yard.

And Squeak just wants to eat treats .... :laughing:

68°F and 0 rain last 24 hours.

Should get last couple of hours of mowing done.

Will set up with dealer for my 300 hours servicing. Normally I would do but in the interest of protecting my warranty. Possibly have a warranty issue. Seems my hydraulic oil cooler has developed a small leak. Perhaps that means replacement? If not warranty I’d pull it off and take to the local radiator shop. Just hope this doesn’t cause an unreasonable delay getting tractor back and I get behind on mowing.

Puppy update. With all the brotherly assistance Makani has mastered the puppy door. Was interesting to watch both Simba and Kekoa tease him into chasing them both in and out. Of course his legs still short so he ends up dragging back end of body over the edge. Still working the flap door with his paws before sticking nose thru.

75 and raining hard, Sally is definitely here.
spent most of morning making doc appointments in PA, trying to get all affiliated with Doylestown hospital which has a portal system like what I'm used to here, shows all the appointments scheduled and hopefully test results. Primary and cardiologist appts made, still waiting on oncologist office to call me back. Maybe they are too big and too busy?

Today we did the final touches to the primitive walk in camp sites, removing little stumps and trip hazards, and final trimming.

The fire pit installation crew was right behind us. (pics above)

You old people need to stop falling. I have hit the hitch on the truck several times but that is because my progressive lenses obscure it.

Drew glad the future is becoming clearer to you.

RNG before you comment on the placement of the fire pit close to the cedar - it was not my placement!

Take the ball platform out when you’re not towing, I started doing that years ago after several collisions while walking around the truck.

Day got off to slow start (see below)

Late morning loaded up the pups and Soph to go to PO and leisure trip to Waimea for lunch and blizzard from DQ. About hour ride each way. Made for nice, relaxing together time. I had the burger and fries from local burger place, Soph had a chinese mixed plate at the Parker Ranch SC food court.

Gave the pups their chicken mcnuggets after we got home then out to mow a couple hours.

Duncan, the neighborhood horse passed away yesterday. Now, he wasn’t owned by the neighborhood. His owner was Kelvin, friend and neighbor who lives at end of the road down the hill. In his prime, Duncan was a working asset as Kelvin is a rancher, having several hundred head of cattle up and down the road, but Duncan hadn’t done a round up in a few years, retired, put out to pasture as they say. He was about 30 yo. Very doubtful Kelvin ever thought of him as a pet. That’s where Sophie and neighbors come in. Not to suggest he was neglected, but some felt he needed more attention. No idea how many bags of apples, those 10 lb bags of carrots and endless varieties of fruits and veggies Sophie has taken to him last 7+ years. Others brought alfalfa cubes, senior horse feed, watering containers, insect spray, and who knows what. Probably half our visitors adopted him during their stays with us. If the days were dry, we’d lug multiple milk jugs of water to fill his trough. I’d often joke that he knew the vehicles in the neighborhood, trotting toward the fence when he saw one that usually meant treats, ignoring those that ignored him. But other than these neighbors, his only friends were the cows in the pasture and Howard, the stray dog who lives outside the pasture fence (but another story).
Last year, we got a new set of neighbors, two 20 acre parcels up from us. Younger, newly retired, Ted and Marilyn hit the ground running. Marilyn even flew her horse, Linus, from the mainland. Not only rides, but drives him as well. She had him since a youngster, 18-19 years as I recall.
Being as they were hard working, traveling professionals, Linus was boarded most of his life. Marilyn was concerned he was alone here, not adapting quickly. So Sophie suggests, talk to Kelvin, surely you could bring Duncan up to your place, he’s lonely too. How could he refuse . And toward the end of last year Duncan was walked up the road to join Linus. Marilyn had a 3 stall barn built, a first for Duncan. The vet was called to check him out, and regularly for periodic care. The farrier took care of both. Linus didn’t know about cows, wild pigs, eating Hawaiian grass, Duncan didn’t know about baths, grooming, food and water in a shelter. They became best buds, to the point that Marilyn had to watch how she treated one in the presence of the other. These past months may have been the best of his life.
We saw him just a couple days ago when we delivered tomatoes. Looked good, even came over and nuzzled me, and I’m not a horse person. Both were roaming free within the yard. Soph commented how good he looked but Marilyn said his seizures had been increasing. Don’t recall what from, but no treatment.
We got the call last night from another friend. Another neighbor told Sophie that Linus was vocal all night. I’m not knowledgable enough to say whinny or neigh.
When I talked to Marilyn this morning, she said Linus was really upset, then again she was still choked up herself.
A neighborhood fixture, Duncan will be missed by many.

good morning all. Got a few hours more sleep and now enjoying a cup of coffee. Still have headache but it's mild.

Eric, last doc appt is Oct 7 so any time after that when my helpers/movers can arrange time off from fire company to get the move done. One guy to drive the Uhaul truck, one to drive my car, while I come up a day or two earlier with rv.

rain stopped but will start up again soon. Heaviest will be tonight and tomorrow. It's not a wind event so I'm not worried at all. The farmers trying to bring in harvests are ones who really care, too much rain bad for cotton, and moisture content always an issue for soybeans and feed/ethanol corn. Pretty sure the tobacco has already come in.

I am so pleased that you will be my new tenant in the little house on Sugan rd. We have always called it Sugan Cottage.
We will have it in good shape for your arrival in October.

Going to wait until I get in there and dust has settled, then will discuss gardens in rear, planting bulbs and roses, and most importantly to me,
getting an electrician to install wiring for adding a 10kw generator by way of a 50 amp cord that just plugs into side of house and then into
interlock mini panel for selected circuits. Hardware is cheap, electricians are not, but I'm really spoiled by having an automatic backup gen last 15 years.
Going to get a Westinghouse dual fuel gen and run it off propane. I'll have pictures of hardware and electricians proposal before I say word one to her.
Clearly at ask permission stage and not ask forgiveness. Yet. But most of what I intend to do there will add value to her property, including the a/c units I will install.
Though I would surely take the gen with me, leaving the infrastructure ready for next person.

If she objects to the infrastructure improvements, feel free to do it at my house.

When I rented a house while building 23 yrs ago, I put a 20 ft storage container in the driveway. Years later I was talking to my old landlord, he told me he didn’t like that I had put a storage container there, but that I was the best renter he ever had and didn’t want to say anything.
He sold that house later and some other friends now own it.

Rain from Sally started at noon, only .03” so far but expecting 2-2.5”. We need it after near three weeks with little rain. Looks like my grandson’s game will get rained out.
75° now but nice cool weather for the next 4-5 days.

I almost bought a UTV 2 1/2 years ago, nothing as opulent as those, but I just couldn’t justify it given my 2.5 acres and limited access to areas where I could ride without trailering it. I’d still like to have one to play with.

Drew, I’m glad it’s coming together for you. That Bertram is a sweet ride, a friend of mine who is a produce wholesaler, now retired, bought a 54’ I think it was, big by my standards anyway, and four of us drove down in a rental and brought up on the outside. It had Yanmars in it I believe, don’t remember the fuel burn since it’s been thirty years, but we hauled butt coming north and stopped in SC and Norfolk to fuel and eat. It held 1500 gallons as I recall. He gave his American Express card a work out, and fuel just over $1-$1.50 then.

Toppop, most of the time a golf cart makes more sense, is maintenance free basically and can have a fold down utility bed in back instead of golf bag holder.

When I bought my Bertram, diesel was .78 a gallon, when I sold it, six times that. At 35 gallons an hour we wound up doing a lot more anchoring out at mouth of Sassafras vs. going to St. Michaels, which we did as a treat or over to Baltimore. And then taking boat down the Intracoastal to Florida and making our bucket list trip of going over to the Abacos, well I've had plenty of boating. It's just so bloody expensive now.
My good friend Tom who has the second home in Delray Beach is trying to find a 33 footer he can afford, he wants new because he is a perfectionist, and they are all over 400 grand. And 100k in depreciation after 12 months. I can't afford that, not after I stopped working. He is looking for some neatnick with a bad case of twofootitis who wants the next model up, or three outboards instead of two (today very common to see boats that used to have two outboards running around with four). All bragging rights stuff...

Very relieved to get off phone with oncology office in PA who finally called me back. They said delay was in not getting records from down here, so I followed up with locals. They promised me an appointment first week in November, which is good. And I made a final appt with dermatologist locally, making good progress.

time for a nap while rain makes nice noise on roof. Thank goodness this rv doesn't leak a drop.

My favorite boat picture of my late wife Nadene, with the biggest grin on her face, after polishing off a bushel of crabs on the back deck of our boat in St. Michaels. I picked the freshly steamed crabs up at the Crab Shack there, and didn't like ripping the bodies apart. She utterly adored it. What a look of contentment. Her cancer didn't arrive for several more years and this was a wonderful time in our lives.

Miss having local friends with boats, most sold off or far away now.

Growing up my friend had a 33' with twins, he had front ballast of , a kegerator and keg.
Could not let it run empty or would not get to plane (at least he said so)

Growing up on Long Island as a kid, we used to pick mussels on the north shore, get crabs from our neighbor, and fish for dinners. Even had a lobster permit for a bit.
It wasn't until years later I found out how much this stuff now costs.

Periodically I look at the UTVs, Kawasaki Mule or Gator mostly. My tractor dealer is also Mule dealer. Wife has made remarks lately of interest. My golf cart (gas) is a 1996 and likely one of the better $1400 investments I’ve made. Just may think even more seriously next yearas everything will be paid off again.
