Good morning!!!!

Good morning, hard to imagine many of you sweltering in the heat when here rain is lashing against the windows and is set to keep on coming all day long. On the positive side, this is just the motivation I needed to stay inside and attempt to repair some electric fence energises, one is mine and the other two belong to a friend. Looked at one already and found high voltage capacitor had failed, but broke a transformer pin while getting it out. Never that keen working on things that like to bite back.

You have to have the chart on the Wet Bulb Globe Temp. There are 5 categories each just a few degrees different and each depending on the level of activity - low, medium, high and has the amount of water you should be drinking and how many minutes of rest each hour. It's like a care plan for 15 different scenarios in the heat, in the sun
Don, Kyle makes a good point, the WBGT sounds a great idea, taking into account many different weather parameters that contribute to heat exhaustion, but do you think they missed a trick when arbitrarily choosing the numbers to go with it that seemingly takes no account of human nature ? Most of us and particularly the media expect bigger numbers for something that is "hotter" and more life threatening, instead of a pretend Celsius or Fahrenheit "temperature" that is always smaller than the number you would see on ordinary thermometer. Scientifically it works fine, but they really needed a marketing guy on the committee to come up with different units that sound more sensationalist when read out by a weather forecaster.
"Stay in the shade and drink plenty today folks, by this afternoon we are anticipating a high of 290 Mega SWELTS !"

Randy .. do you have a comparison of jaw "grip force" between hydraulic cylinders and electric actuators?

May not be an issue for you but I've had the experience, with both 55 HP and 100 HP tractors, of big logs or complete dead trees so heavy that I could lift .. but not curl. The grapple jaws held the load just fine. If not .. I'd have to cut them into shorter lengths.

My tractor has 25 hp, so picking up Sequoias is not on my list. LOL

The electric unit is rated the same as the hydraulic , 2500 lbs, but the electric unit has a limiter switch to get there, the actuator is 5000 lbs.

I was able to balance one cherry tree on the bucket, it made the rear a little light so I put the land plane on and went really slow. The tractor will readily lift more than I’m comfortable moving.

The study is about Afib but having it is not asked. Why did you get turned down? There are only 3 qualifications, age, iphone, and regular Medicare. Or are you saying you were placed in the 1/3 part of the study with no watch?

No, I was turned down and Heartline did ask about Afib. I filled out the initial app then got a second, more Detailed one emailed to me, about 2 weeks later I got the denial. They told me they would like for me to apply in the future. I trashed the email.
I even took the app off my phone because I was pissed.

Waiting for first cup of coffee to cool. 78° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 85° with partly cloudy skies. 78° at 6 am is not a good sign of how the day is going to go. Forecast rain has disappeared. Boy do we need it. While doing maintenance on garden pond. I slipped on a rock. Ankle was very sore yesterday. Today I can walk without much pain. But still swollen. Missed party. Today is going to be a conserve energy day.
Yesterday morning sky sure looked like we should have gotten rain. All we got was 93° and 65% humidity. Feels like 109°.

Buckeye, hope arm pain goes away.

Randy, I freeze my sausage also. But they get lost in a over full freezer.

Drew, be careful in the heat.

Everyone be safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

Outside chores done E muffin time. :licking:
Plans for today...about 3 hours trimming than slow mode and staying cool.

Enjoy the day all.

I learned an expensive lesson with the Kubota L3240. Just because the FEL will lift something, it doesn't mean it's OK for the machine to do so. The last trip in for dealer service was for replacement of wheel spindle bearings and bearing housings on the front axles. They weren't designed to take the heavy loads of dirt, gravel, and retaining wall blocks that the FEL was more than happy to lift.

And, as Randy points out, if the FEL isn't counter balanced with weight out back, the rear wheels will lose traction. Since most tractors only have brakes on the rear axle, you may find yourself headed down hill with no way to stop. DAMHIKT.:2cents:

72 and clear skies again today. Felt pretty good outside until the sun came up. Looking for 97 here and 99 in the city. Creek dried up again after the 3 small rains last week.

Took a long time for a single cloud to show yesterday...all must be visiting Texas and Britain.

Mostly, I still have the straps and will look for a way to use them...the connectors aren't the same, of course.

Ron and BEF, hope you get well soon. BEF, I got out of bed at 3:30 with shoulder pain...kinda comes and goes.

Rick, glad you got your compressor fixed. King Kyle needs some competition...or he might turn into a young whippersnapper :) (No offense, Whipper).

Thomas, Boo must be hot with your warm weather. Take him a lemonade, with two straws. :)

Good Morning!!!! 77F @ 4:15AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 102F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Woke early to answer Mother Nature's call, and thought I'd open up the house and let some cool air in. But 77F is hardly cool, and like Ron sez, doesn't bode well for the rest of the day's temperatures. There have been thunderstorms north of here, but the accompanying lightning has started several fires, some of them growing to over 10,000 acres. So dry is fine with me.

Did your aunt miss the party too, Ron? With all the CV19 in the area, maybe that's not such a bad thing?

Also hoping the hurricane passes you by without harm, David. I thought hurricanes in the Pacific were called typhoons. Did that change?

Hope your move goes smoothly, Drew, and you finish before it gets too hot. Would it be easier to just bring the motor home to the facility and load it directly? FWIW, Rooibos is one of my faves, too! And I agree that it's probably better to pay attention to what the cardiologist says, and not so much the GP.

All that moist air is bound to cause corrosion problems in the air compressor components, Rick. And if there's oil mixed in, too, the emulsion it forms isn't good for moving parts, either. Your idea of using Fluid Film the way you did makes sense, in pretty much the same way as using DeOxIt on electrical contacts does.

At work, both compressors are plumbed with timers to drain the bottom of the tank every 5 minutes or so for a few seconds. At home, the speedaire's drain is an inch or 2 off the ground, with not much room for a hand. I might mount an old airgun to a short hose and tie it off up higher to make it easier to drain.
Another stroke of genius, Kyle. Thanks for passing that one along.

The question on my mind is how do you sanitize air?

I worry about the people who aren't worried about the disease. We have talked to friends who go to the grocery store. They say there are still a lot of people who don't wear masks.

That's the sixty-four dollar question, isn't it? Out here, the governor is slapping restrictions back on because the infection rate is reaching all time highs. This time, though, with better treatments in place, far fewer people are ending up in the hospital, and even fewer are dying. But back to your question, Jay has taken to wearing a respirator with charcoal filters that is far better than even N95 masks, and his sunglass/goggles would do a decent job of protecting his eyes from airborne virus. You can also take advantage of the stores that have early elder opening hours, so there are fewer people sharing the air in the store. Many of the new cases out here have been traced back to family and small group gatherings where social distancing was either impractical or just ignored. So that's another tactic that you can control to your advantage, and can choose not to enter a place if it's too full.

Thanks for the link to the Tempest network, Don. Those things are selling like hotcakes! WU gives mounting guidelines for weather stations, and say the ideal height is 5' off the ground. Are your sprinklers shooting water into the air that high?

If I was in Shiner, TX, I'd be more inclined to visit the brewery than a meat packer...:drink:

Barber shops are another of the governor's casualties. Think I may just start workin' on a pony tail, like back in my hippy/college student days.

Finished cleaning up the repair plates for the hatch on the firetruck tank, and got them welded into place. The fitup wasn't that great and I spent a lot of time filling in gaps. Turns out that uses a lot of electricity, and since it was during a peak solar time, it was all free. Though I did make sure that the A/C was off so as not to blow the battery breaker again. By 3PM I'd soaked through a pair of jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt, so it was time to call it quits for the day. Spent the rest of the afternoon watching videos on networking.

If I can get an early start this morning, I'd like to get the stiffeners welded into the tank, then coat everything with the rust converter before it gets too hot. Not sure there'll be enough time for that with the way the thermometer is lookin' though.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a healthy start!
