The local news talked about your Roanoke record maybe getting broken next week.

Looks like our local record is safe...90 plus degrees streak was set 25 years ago...27 days. The 95+ streak was set in 1900, the 100+ set in 1953, and the 105+ set in 1918. Seems to have been hotter about a 100 years ago.

Good morning to all! Low of 54, up to 90 today, good chance of T-storms. We had a few sprinkles and distant thunder yesterday, hopefully "priming" the atmosphere for some more widespread showers today. Not sure how much we got, didn't go check the rain gauge, it was not a lot...

I had to run into town again yesterday unexpectedly, just on the outskirts, so only had to deal with just a few idiots....

Also yesterday, I got the downed tree picked up and moved to the back field, I'll cut it up later. Sorted some R/C stuff, then called it good for the day.

Today I will assemble the wifeys new sewing cabinet that arrived yesterday. We both forgot it was coming and wondered why FedEx was pulling in the driveway...DUH!

Ron, that was a very neat pic. Congratulations on the multiple GM awards....

We have not been able to see the comet, either due to high clouds, or more than likely, the mountain is blocking the view.

On the porch remodel effort, I cannot find PT lumber with 100 miles of me,

I am using a carbide scraper to get the glue off. Since I have no lumber, I plonk along at a nice pace. Slow. And slowest.

RNG looks like he is in for a fun time.

and I like Oreos too! I think it's mostly chocolate chip cookies I don't like, I can nibble on solid good quality chocolate and sometimes eat chocolate ice cream
so yeah I guess my blanket statement was too broad...

found out something amusing, sort of, this morning. Two weeks ago I sent an email to head of this place suggesting they pay more attention to cleaning out the lint filters in their laundry dryers, always fully clogged when I get there. Went on two house fires caused by that, usually in ducting. Took them a week and signs went up in laundry room asking everyone to clean out filters after themselves. :thumbsup:

so this morning I ask maintenance head about what tripped the sprinklers going off, which he said malfunctioned and shot water in areas never supposed to due a broken pipe. Clearly they weren't paying for routine maintenance/testing. So what caused the event?
Fire in the commercial dryer in the laundry room.

wow, not like they learned anything from that...:shocked: I'd bet dollars to donuts it was due to lint buildup.
Not only is it unsafe, but makes dryer run much longer and wastes electricity or gas.
Maintenance guy here clearly not proactive

RS, you never answered this but issue with sparrows is they eat other "nicer" birds eggs? Drive off the bluebirds?

Correct: they are an invasive species that will displace more desirable native species through a variety of means such as occupying (and defending) potential nesting sites of other cavity-nesting birds, attacks on both adults and young, general harassment, etc.

Pretty sure you aren't eating them...

My creek never dries up. Neighbors place is called 7 springs farm for a reason.

Too cloudy for me to see the comet. I was up at 11.

My creek dries up in dry weather, but it gives me a chance to stockpile silt to mix with topsoil from my pit, that mixture will grow anything.
