Good morning, quite a chilly damp start to the day, could be time to burn a few more sticks come this evening.

 Puts our wabbit problem into perspective !

The government has just announced that wearing face masks while in shops becomes mandatory for us from next week. Lots of childhood experience wearing a mask, though my "Lone Ranger" black one never did much to protect my identify, let alone a virus :)

My wife has been making masks, maybe a little more practice needed at wearing one

Think she missed covering mouth, Eric - practice

Went from 70 to 89, heat index is 94. Better than recent weather. Took Ellen’s Edge in for service this morning.
We went in the storage building and started all of his car collection. The 34 Chevy street rod, 57 Chevy with LT1 drivetrain swap, and 65 Corvette started right up, but two of the pickups and old Blazer had to be charged.
We put the top down on the Vette and took a ride before it got too hot.

I have never owned a pool. Everyone I know who has or does is loaded with horror stories about their upkeep and repair nightmares ... which is why I've never owned a pool.

Hope yours doesn't turn into one of those stories, Ken.

I read above ground pools selling like hot cakes. Pool companies are sold out.

Good Afternoon!

I'm happy to report I am STILL ALIVE and still mostly a n00b, or maybe a Hot Mess, LOL...

I posted today in Lawn equipment because I'm trying to horse trade my busted & rusted 1996 F250 for a mower better suited to my 3+ acres I need to mow...

I hope all is awesome and everyone is doing well.

David

Does the 57 Chevy have a Hurst on the floor?

Nice to hear from you David/MF. I thought you traded a Ranger for that F250? what are you going to use to plow snow?
Hope the girls are all growing up to be big teenagers and good to you.

81F and mostly cloudy @ 14:00. Doesn't look like much chance of rain until Thursday at the earliest.

Got oil changed in Trac Vac yesterday and got about 75% of the lawn down around the house mowed and picked up. The Woman is currently out on the Kubota mowing the parts of the front (75%) which should not need picked up. A somewhat scary proposition to be sure ...

Had to run out to The Depot yesterday for a couple of hole saws and perlite, they were out of the perlite ... but I did find elemental sulphur for the blueberries and hydrangeas ...

Woman wants to go out later for some flowers ... and I am invited to do along ... :D

She ran out earlier to Micky D's for some chow and reported on return that the Sparrow palace was doing a booming biz, which I am happy to confirm:

Looks to be seven, all females near as I can tell ... but a good haul nonetheless ...

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day.

Drew,

Back in January I bought a 2010 F350 snow plow truck. I have to make payments on it though...

Big Blue Beast. I had to immediately fix a bunch of stuff also, but it was right at 50,000 miles.

The Ranger I ended up donating to a wounded warrior type place. The F250 has WAY TOO much rust to safely drive it, and then an electrical issue killed it...

Hope that mess makes sense.

67 outside this AM. Heading to 90's. I'll just repeat that forecast for the next month, cause that is what the longer term outlook is projecting.

I need to hose down some stuff. I get nervous around these "extended" heat waves with lack of rain. Being on well water, I just don't know what is available.

Hope all have a good day. Be safe.

On hospitals and insurance, over my lifetime, I have had three significant events, all three ended up with serious dollars being owed by my. Even with insurance, which in one circumstance was "the best" a long time ago. We have attempted to keep "the best" insurance through our lives to this point.
The first event, air fare, weeks in ICU, recovery, ended with the Doctor forgiving my debt. And my employer dropping that insurance company from their plan the next go around.
The second event, covered all but deductibles and some out-of-network charges. Unfortunate when your in six figures for care, your responsible payments are still significant.
The third event, covered all but deductibles and what we thought were to be in-network charges. We thought we had the proper sign-offs on billing and services before undertaking the surgery. That turned out to not be correct on my part, fine print and such...so once again we reverted back to debt forgiveness and paying the outstanding debt.

With these care providers billing in the millions, and the dealings with insurances, one can see how people just cannot make ends meet.

Makes one wonder why America can't do better at healthcare.

The assisted living bills split the medical and prescription apart from the room and board. Some or all may be deductible based on circumstances.

Here's one of the best explanations I read on the subject, from website Elderlaw:

" In order for assisted living expenses to be tax deductible, the resident must be considered "chronically ill." This means a doctor or nurse has certified that the resident either:
- cannot perform at least two activities of daily living, such as eating, toileting, transferring, bath, dressing, or continence;
or
- requires supervision due to a cognitive impairment (such as Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia)."

"Generally, only the medical component of assisted living costs is deductible and ordinary living costs like room and board are not. However, if the resident is chronically ill and in the facility primarily for medical care and the care is being performed according to a certified care plan, then the room and board may be considered part of the medical care and the cost may be deductible, just as it would be in a hospital. If the resident is in the assisted living facility for custodial and not medical care, the costs are deductible only to a limited extent. In any case, the expenses are not deductible if they are reimbursed by insurance or any other programs."

"Residents who are not chronically ill may still deduct the portion of their expenses that are attributable to medical care, including entrance or initiation fees. The assisted living facility is responsible for providing residents with information as to what portion of fees is attributable to medical costs."

That explains a lot. Thanks, I printed your post and put it in my mom file.
