Good evening. It was 75° this morning, got to 97°, and now back down to 87° feels like 98°. . We're hoping for some rain this week. Fingers crossed .. legs crossed .. eyes crossed!

Our weekend guests all headed out by 8 a.m. and Patricia and our GD Madison headed back to Richmond by 10 a.m. The quiet .. is deafening!

Columbus had a fine fireworks show out at the County Fairgrounds last evening. It was originally planned as a huge tailgate party but, due to the uptick in Covid .. it was scaled back to just fireworks. We took lawn chairs and sat behind our F-350 to enjoy the show.

Not many big accomplishments since my last post. Entertaining, cooking, cleaning .. wash .. rinse .. repeat. Lucky for me .. everyone slept in Friday and Saturday so .. I got some early shop time. I did finally get the 3rd function QD's changed out on the New Holland though. I pulled the NH up where the QD's were above the fire pit at the shop. I expected to lose some hydraulic oil, when I removed the FF QD's. So .. it all got soaked up by the ash in the FP instead of the concrete or grass.

Next step is to hook up the EA grapple, which is already plumbed correctly for the 55 HP tractor, to the New Holland. I've used a male and female QD on each implement .. same on tractors to assure correct hookup every time. I want the grapples to open when top side of the 3rd function toggle is depressed and closed when lower side of the toggle is pressed. If I hook up the properly polarized grapple to the NH and the grapple opens / closes correctly .. all good. If not .. I reverse the hoses .. to the tractor side QD's.

Once the New Holland is correct .. I hook up the big grapple and cycle it and swap grapple side fittings, if required, to make it operate properly. DONE!

My neighbor is replacing more fence this week so .. I'll take the LS 55 HP tractor, with post / tree puller installed, over and yank and drop his old posts. He'll use his skid steer and grapple to gather the old posts and move to burn pile. He's got no livestock, where the new fence is, so he can take his time replacing it.

Glad to see Jay's return to the fold.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday weekend.

Prayers to all

Good evening all. 76F for the start, partly cloudy, light breeze. Light wind day, Clouded up several times like it would rain but did not, High temp was 91F and feels like temp was 101F. Chapel this morning, made wife's breakfast, and then worked on catching up with thread. Had to back boat into driveway just pulled in last night because of darkness. Conserved energy this afternoon, worked nap in, and then went to stepdaughter's for b-day dinner while she was in town.
Covid update: Cooke unchanged, Montague unchanged, Grayson 633 confirmed cases, 58 active cases
Bird hope you get some wind.

RNG great chipmunk story, Good luck with the alarm systen, sounds like a lot of integration issues. lizard antics soind entertaining.

Roy I agree, having mag label with wrong caliber does not sound right.
Jay glad you had an uneventful 4th, chuckled at Brogon comparison to speed bump again.
Ted glad you got some rain hope you get some more, sorting is such fun, I have trouble not moving the goal post so I can keep more, not having much room here help with that.
RS glad you had productive day even if FL not greased yet :)
David sorry you did not have your gathering for 4th.
Jay most every one behaved themselves on way home, biggest problem was how people were wandering about with all the anchor lines already out, surprised none were tangled up
Drew looks marvelous!!
Roy $5 a load, wow you can tell how long its been since I did laundry at a laundry mat!
prayers for all, Especially Drew and Country
stay safe and healthy, you all, yes Ted you too!

After worship today we went to pick up our bucket of pitted sour cherries we bought last week at the orchard. Ate lunch at the same place we got shakes last week, near Messicks. They have indoor dining open with half the tables blocked off, but we ate at outside table, where it was around 90° in the shade. Got to 95° today.
Indoors the rest of the day. Working on labeling the last 6 month of my pictures. Less than half done.
I brought back more old photos from dads that I need to scan.
The day flew by.
Got 3 drone videos from the farm posted on my YouTube page. I did edit them some but no audio. In one the deer got scared and ran.

77F and mostly clear @ 22:30. High today hit 91 and it felt warm ... suspect there was a good bit less breeze than there was yesterday.

After tomorrow, the extended forecast shows at least the possibility of some rain ... although the highest chance is only 50% ... next Saturday.

Loader greased first thing this morning.

Got the 5th coat of BLO put on the Flicker nest box ... used what was left out uncovered overnight in a cat food can ... probably shouldn't have done that without adding some more first. It did not soak in quite as well. I think I'm going to call it good at 5 coats for now. Still need to do a little more sanding on the lid and apply the BLO.

Got all the parts for the Gilwood Slot nest box painted but not assembled. Still have to cut the kerfs in the roof for a drip edge .

Got the base for the second meal worm feeder painted, second coat of BLO on the roofs.

The Woman worked on weeding the blueberries this morning and switched to the hydragenas, hostas, and lilies at the side of the garage this afternoon:

IMG_0343 copy.jpg

Everything there needs dug up and moved elsewhere, and hostas need split as they've gotten huge. Also the big rhododendron and oak need removed/taken out as the both have grown up to point that they're touching the lines from the transformer for the electrical service coming into the house.

Seeing that rib dinner Drew posted reminded that there were still a couple here ... so I snuck in for a late afternoon snack:

IMG_0344 copy.jpg

After that I headed down to Menards and picked up the order. Grabbed a second el cheapo watering can while I was there. The lady in the check out line in front of me had one of those flat carts filled with cat litter and dry cat food ... being fairly small, it was about all she could do to push it. The bill came to $500 and thirty-some dollars ...

I said something to the effect that she was clearly a cat lover and she said "Oh, yes ..." ... so I asked how many cats she had. She replied that she had 28 cats ... inside ... but she fed and cared for the strays outside that come around as well.

It was all fairly impressive ... enough so that I was calling The Woman before I even got out of the parking lot ...

After I got home I used the brush cutter to cut down all the tall grass around the lower catch basin and blew it out with the blower. The small flex pipe from the circle had become disconnected and was what was causing the erosion. Hopefully be able to fix that tomorrow and lay in some bentonite to seal up any channels that might have been created.

About dusk I ran the peat moss and composted cow manure out to the blueberries and worked as much as I could into the soil before it got too dark to see.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Yep, no doubt that you're old fashioned, almost as much so as me.

Thanks Bird. :)

RNG, glad you are making some headway with the van. When it comes to anything electronic, I try to avoid it... had to do these days. I was just reading through the instructions for a new RC battery charger last night.... with the very bad CHenglish translation, and my new found difficulties with technology, I have basically resolved to just plug in the batteries and see what it tells me to do!

I am kinda at a crossroad with with the hobby shack.... do I put up some shelves that wifey wants, move more stuff out there first, start thinning the r/c herd / supplies, or just do some sorting of what is out there already.... decisions, decisions... :indifferent::prescription:

I was helping the neighbor mount some tie down loops on his trailer yesterday. Ended up spinning the base plate with the drill, taking out a chunk of forefinger skin about a 1/2" long... not a cut, just missing a chunk... have to be careful not to touch anything there... still hurting a bit this morning.

Well, that sums up my past two days.... it's great hearing about what everyone does daily.

Ya'all have a great day!

One of my work's former projects that I "scored" on, is a fairly big glider that has a electric motor and foldable prop. It has wings that you can take off for travel. I think the wingspan is about 10-12'. It needs all new hinges on every aileron, rudder, elevator control surface. I know about nothing to zero of these rc things.

Sorry about your finger, skin off the back is VERY painful. Don't get me started on chenglich. Jay- easy to see how you perused it as something else. There is a "Kickapoo" road between here and Houston.

Good morning all. 7/4 weather 74F for the start, mostly clear, light breeze. Light wind day, some popup thunderstorms .05 inch rain in gauge. High temp was 95F. Opening Ceremony with flag raising, pledge of Allegiance and VFW guy gave a recruiting speech. Golf cart parade went well, no judging this year. No food trucks mini kid's rides this year. Fireworks at night watched from boat. Someone did a nice job of choreography, very nice use of mixing height and types.
yesterday's Covid update: Cooke 61 confirmed cases, 36 active cases , Montague unchanged, Grayson 630 confirmed cases, 45 active cases

Drew glad you were able to score some groceries!
Rand I don't know of anyone that looks forward to 100F temps
Jay what time was dinner?
Mike nice pool pic. I got the same lecture on my bike ride :)
David to the water rescue
Thomas please don't start with the age thing, thought you just got new tractor.
PJ this time of year it is going to be a sweat fest on the bike, especially with high humidity. Yes I liked more days off nearing retirement, but had a lot to get done before the retirement
Don it is going to be a while around here to get below 20 active cases, more cases last 2 weeks than previous 3 months.
Dennis nice pics
RS nice looking nest box
Kyle sorry to hear about daughter, wonder if Covid and having autistic sister mare contribute to depression. Used a neck cooler (ice in small towel) last hour
RNG great story. Growing up we did good to score M-80
7/4 postings:
Hop all of you had a good 4th of July
David key to bump-head working: care and neat winding, overlaps will cause string to weld to itself.
Drew you always have been very thorough with your research. Hope you had a happy 4th
Billy much agreed !
Phil good no weather damage, and thanks for retirement update.
Roy not many people get 15 to 20 years from a front loader, yes appliances are expensive and don't last as long :(
Thomas nothing special for the 4th?
RNG after the hat hit 95F had to to slow down and ice neck. If no video I write down the sequences for each feature I wish to program, then tape my instructions to steering wheel, then just program that feature
Ron neat pic. enjoy your painting
Don sorry about potatoes, glad tomatoes were better, hope you can see wife's great aunt.
Rich good plan
RS happy greasing

Thomas have fun fishing, hope you catch some fish.
Ron hope you can find someone to finish high work, neat pic.
Roy laundry sounds exciting ;)
Dennis glad you got to see your dad, nice drone pic
Good stopping point, finish tonight hopefully
prayers for all especially Drew and Country
stay safe and healthy you all.
Yes! That was quite the golf cart parade. Never seen one that big. We used to watch fireworks from the boat on Lake Travis. Once I took out the J24 to watch them.

Yes, it must be air compressor drama month for me. Our big one at work is down, and it is a very high time unit. Our backup at work is an oldie duplex that I can't believe still runs, since it gets no maintenance....And BOTH of mine at home are down. The one I've had the longest is one of those fast rpm Husky OILESS buzzbombs. The piston's plastic ring has broken, and the aluminum cylinder is heavily scored. Campbell Hausfield used to sell a kit for $35 bucks, but they've discontinued it. Even the distributor stated on the kit's page "We don't know why they quit making these, they were our best seller"....I know why. Because you could fix the buzz bomb for $35 bucks instead of buying a whole new compressor...I may have messed up the pressure controller switch trying to get it apart. Going to wait and see about the Speedaire before spending time on the buzz bomb. If I can repair the pressure switch, I could bore out the aluminum cylinder and make a PEEK or teflon new ring. I did contact Campbell Hausfield and asked where I could procure a repair kit.

OK, now for the home Speedaire. It is an oldie 2Z499A pump model, (actually given to me) that was owned by a gentleman who passed away. It was full of dirt dauber nests, and dirty. The reed valves, although caked with baked on crud, have actually cleaned up well with a sharp putty knife and some mineral spirits. One piston had a stuck top ring that was not expanding when I pulled it out. I've now got all the rings free and relatively clean. I see no major wear items. The cylinders are decent, but I'd like to ball hone them to freshen them up. No scores on cylinders or pistons. I need a gasket set and air filters for this thing. GASKET SET FOR SPEEDAIRE 2Z499 & 2Z63 | Factory Air Compressor Parts

There is a northern tool rough equivalent that I might consider if the speedaire pump doesn't work out.

It looks like it would work, but I'd have to buy a fan belt pulley for the motor.

Drew glad you were able to score some groceries!

did even better today...Garden Club lady brought me leftovers from yesterday, ribs were amazing, meat fell off bone,
wonderful smoked flavor, I'm guessing chipolte something, said she was from Texas and knew her ribs. Oh my...

Score again! I'm so glad you have friends there.

good morning everyone
71 going up to 92 today. Some powerful thunderstorms around dinner time last night,
really gave the area a soaking which was needed.

Kyle good luck with compressors, sounds like you will be busy but you have a good plan.
Always impressed with how many hours those rotary screw industrial compressors could rack up.
Inexpensive home units can make such a harsh irritating noise I now know to buy them by the DB rating.
I had a Quincy 3.5hp unit in my barn and was always satisfied with it. I would have gone 5hp but was amperage limited

seems my rv dealer is now interested in buying back my motorhome after ignoring three calls from my brother and one from me.
Text came in saying so sorry it took so long to get back to us...super busy. Studied their website, yup both of their identical new units are
under agreement for sale and no used ones left. So now they are interested in mine. The question is how much they try to lowball me. They will make
it easy, which they are banking on, will come and pick it up, leave a check. No response yet from rvtrader and craigslist ads, except for one Craigslist inquiry but that
guy never called back, so I'll probably have to come down a little to sell the unit to dealer. I sure have experience doing that lately...
