Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

This was an interesting weather system. I do not recall ever getting thunder snow with every form of precipitation before. All's well that ends well.:)

A freezing drizzle 28ºF for today's low temperature; a cloudy 31ºF presently; and with luck maybe some sunshine this PM with high temperature ~40ºF. I measured 3.25 of snow/sleet/ice/hail this morning. I tried to walk the lower perimeter with Brogen but the addition of the new snow + the existing 5 - 6 snow/icepack stressed my knees more than I desired. I need to take Wifey to her Dr's appointment and pick up supplies this PM. Whatever ice/snow remains on the maintained areas today will be managed tomorrow with the NH. I do not want to deal with a driveway with frozen ice until March this pending new year.

If there is a 10:00PM ball dropping somewhere I might see it. I'll be long gone by the time midnight arrives.

Bruce- Thanks for sharing your ice picture. Right now I a few like yours.

Bill- I am hoping for some sunshine, but the ice will have probably melted by the time it shows.

We are definitely a geriatric resource center with all our discussions of pills, side effects, and pill counts :cool: I can definitely relate. It took more than 10 years, but I am finally down to 4 prescribed meds, 2 insulins, and I have not needed any inhalers in the past 2 months.

Eric- Good luck with the owl pictures and the pigeon poo project.

Drew- Good luck with the ENT people.

RonJH- Thanks for the wildlife bird feeder pics.

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope 2020 works out as everyone anticipates.

I hope everyone has a decent day today.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Happy New Year.

Good morning all, and happy New Year’s Eve! Temperature is right near freezing and we got a wee bit of snow, and a bit more to come, but not enough to plow or blow.

BIG Cup of coffee this morning in a giant new Christmas present mug.

Changed the water filters yesterday, and man was the big one micron filter every dirty! UV light was also due, but found out I didn’t have a new one on hand. Have to bring one up next time. They’re not cheap - $70-$80, but they do last a whole year.

Ice storm turned out to be not much of anything here, but the new snow will still make the trip back down to the city today more treacherous. Snow squalls are also predicted, but mostly south and west of here.

Meanwhile, we are going to try to make cedar posts for our iron headboard that we have had here up at the cottage for years and never installed. A bit tricky, because the bed is a California king, and the headboard was made for a full-size king.

Then have to stack a 5’ x 10’ trailer load of seasoned firewood in the garage to keep it out of the weather. It is white pine, and burns real easily, although fast. Good enough for us, since we are not looking to heat the house with it, just have the ambience and warmth of a big fireplace.

Have a good day, everyone!

34°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 41° today.

First shift ended at 2:30 yesterday, and the office was empty by 3pm. I could get used to that kind of holiday week traffic, driving the speed limit all the way home. Nice change of pace. We're supposed to be here until noon today, but I suspect once the paychecks arrive and are distributed, that will be the end of that. Looking forward to another 5-1/2 days off. After this, Memorial Day is the next paid holiday here. Five months with no days off ... a definite first world problem.

Wife and I always stay in for NYE anymore. I spent 35-ish years playing in bars and clubs every NYE, and am happy to avoid that mess now that I don't have to be in it. Like many, we rarely make it to midnight either. Today is today, and when the calendar changes to 01 January 2020 ... it's still going to be today. The whole celebration part lost its shine for me decades ago, no doubt due in part to my forced endurance of the drunken revelry aspect. Nice, quiet evenings at home suit me much better.

Hope everyone has a safe night.

BEF, cool info about the Lincoln connection.

My wife’s 6G grandfather is VA John Lincoln (1716-1788) In 1768 he bought 600 acres in the Shenandoah valley VA. VA John’s oldest son is Capt Abe Lincoln, father of Thomas Lincoln, father of President Lincoln. VA Johns 3rd son is Jacob Lincoln, my wife’s 5G grandfather, and great uncle to the President.

Capt abe and Jacob, and other siblings were born in Berks Co PA.

Most of wifes lineage from Jacobs lineage is buried in Lincoln cemetery in Linville VA.

We will be buried there along with her parents.

VA Johns G Grandfather is Samuel Lincoln (1622-1690) born in Hingham, Norfolk England and came to Massachusetts bay colony in 1637.

And l misspoke a couple days ago but fixed in the long Lincoln history. Jacob Lincoln line is brother to Abraham’s Grandfather. I originally said father. I’m also not sure her dad is the last male Lincoln all the way back to 5Ggf Jacob. Her 3GGF was also named Jacob and he had 2 brothers.
Wife’s Dad sold the Lincoln house he inherited from his Dad. It sits right next to I 81. We have furniture from it that goes back to at least her GGGF.

66°F and .03 inches rain.

Not much left to this year.

Trip to PO this morning. Didn’t go yesterday as tracking didn’t update until she was closed.

Solar installer showed a bit early and made the change. Shunts looking to be reporting correctly now.

Happy Hour was a good time.

Will be staying home tonight, away from the crazies. Have to remember to give the dogs a melatonin before the fireworks.

Still raining.

prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Boy....the snow wasn't deep, but it sure was frozen just under the top layer!!
Anyway, done for the day...I expect I'll be spreading ice melt on the walks tomorrow morning.

40 degs under cloudy sky didn't see the sun at all today
BEF interesting family history you wife has. My wife started doing her family tree and found that her great great uncle was General Butterfield who was known for bugle call TAPS, and was also assistant secretary of treasury I believe during the Grant Administration but was forced out for manipulating gold price. His wife Julia started a library in Cold Springs New York which is still there wife and I stayed in the area stopped at West Point and visited the library. Maybe the Lincoln's knew the Butterfield's.
Well just stuffed a few lobsters going to be a quiet NY just wife and I and a few dogs
Have a safe night to all traveling or heading out to end the year.

My wife’s genealogy is easy, it’s already in books. Lol.

She’s listed in the book “the Lincoln’s of VA” or something like that. We have a copy.

My sister in California called and we yakked for a long time. She is trying to get over a cold which her husband is now full of,
unavoidable at holidays with small kids it seems. She told me they had blocked off a week for me and dates were flexible, so stay longer
at places on the way. That means I can take a couple more days along the way. I'd worry more if this wasn't in April as far as campground availability.

got all the outdoor decorations down, only the big wreath up on barn to do. Supposed to be nice weather tomorrow, blue sky day, I'll take it down then.
I am headed down to tree downstairs, will drag it outside and take the lights off outside. That way I can use small blower to clean up outside though surely lots will drop in process. Rain coming in Friday from South, bringing in warm 78 degree weather.

New Year's Eve. Aaahhh, how things change. Today is also my wife's 76th Birthday. Before I retired from the police department, many years ago, we always had a neighborhood combined party on New Years Eve for Margaret's Birthday and a New Year Party at our house, and yep, the party always lasted until a little after midnight. And now . . . well, we just got back from going out to eat at Rosa's Café and Tortilla Factory. I offered to take her wherever she wanted to go, and she said, "I'm a cheap date." And she was. But we both do like the Wednesday special; 3 tacos (any flavor), beans and rice, etc. And where we used to stay up until midnight . . . . well, I'll do good to keep my eyes open until 8 p.m., but she'll probably stay away to watch the New York Times Square celebration.
