Good morning.
49 and going to a high of 54°F. Wind S 7 mph. Rain in the forecast and it is raining now.

I have a dump run to do today and after that, I have no clue what I will be doing.

Happy Birthday, buckeye!

Have a good day all

Saw a hawk catch a squirrel while I was up a tree bowhunting yesterday. I think it was a rough legged hawk rather than the red tail hawk we "raised" here. It sure was proud of its catch as it flew to a tree about 100 yards away and screeched several times. The squirrel was caught at the same place my trailcam captured a bobcat catching a squirrel a month ago. Maybe I need to put up a warning sign for the squirrels.
...........................

Might consider moving tree stand not good odds for you. ;)

Good Morning!!!! 67F @ 4:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High 87F. Winds light and variable.

Up early to catch the Oronids meteor shower. The sliver of moon was bright enough to hide the little ones, but in the fifteen minutes I invested, I did catch two good ones.

Did you find the candy in the campground, Drew?:confused2:

Nice work, David. I'd be more than a little nervous doing that with so much stuff around, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, right?

Good thing you're not a squirrel, Wng! Careful up in them trees; we don't bounce like we used to.

Latest solar proposal was a bust; they basically ignored the criteria I provided, and it doesn't sound like they have the experience or expertise to do what's needed. The search goes on.

Took the backhoe off the tractor in preparation for opening the gear case, then removed the right rear tire. It's loaded with water and really heavy, so I was slowly and carefully rolling it over to lean it against a wall when I heard a clunk, just like what I'd been hearing on the tractor. That's when I noticed the four bolts that hold the wheel hub to the rim, and when I checked, one of the nuts was just finger tight. Ah ha! Yes, it's routine maintenance to check those bolts, but I have to confess I never have before. A hundred and fifty foot pounds later, and no more clunk. Since the hoe was already off, and I didn't have any digging lined up, I moved enough gravel to get to the box blade and put that on, then went back and poured gravel down the back side of the new section of retaining wall, finishing that project. Moved some other implements to places less likely to interfere with the new shipping container delivery as well. Had another go at the shipping container pad, but just too many rocks to make the kind of progress I'd need to finish it. Got ahold of a contractor neighbor, the one I tried to help with his welding problem, and he's set to come over Wednesday afternoon with his big Cat and finish it off. Nothing like having the right tool for the job.

Still haven't heard back from the shipping container company to see if they think there's enough clearance to get their truck in, so will call them today on that.

Went out to the box trailer to get some gasoline yesterday, and when I opened the side door, I got a shower of acorns. There are no oak trees nearby, so the only way I can see how they'd get there is if some enterprising varmint put 'em there. Probably be a good idea to set a mouse trap in the trailer; I don't need nests in the air cleaners of what is stored in there.

Our local electric power terrorists, PG&E, are issuing new warnings for a blackout starting late tonight or tomorrow morning, so I'll be heading into town today for E0, food, and fuel. Took what I hope turns out to be a leaking hydraulic line off the backhoe yesterday, and will take that to a shop for testing/repair as well. And will pick up the cylinders I sent out for replating.

I have riding buddies coming over Thursday night for dinner and a campout, so we can get an early start on our motorcycle ride over to the coast on Friday. Sent 'em an email this morning letting them know about the power outage, and cautioning them to fill up before they get into the blackout area. Otherwise, it should be business as usual here.

Have a good 'un, folks!

Good morning All. 56 and a drizzle right now. Supposed to get some real rain this afternoon and evening. Happy Birthday BEF and hope for continued healing/strengthening after your recent condition.

Which reminds me. I purchased two new 5 gallon gas cans and filled them up the day they lifted the evacuation orders after the fire. I've been using them to store E0 ever since. The last batch has been in them a couple of months, so that's the can I pulled yesterday to fill up the genny. I was surprised to see that almost a third of the gas had evaporated! The nozzle had been upgraded with an Eez-Fill, and I installed a breather as well, so I'm not sure how the gas got out. I do know these are the crappiest gas cans I've ever used, though. That's why the nozzles were replaced. Now the whole tank needs replaced. Tried to order two of the No-Spill cans off Amazon yesterday, but NO, they won't ship 'em to Kalifornia. Even though they're CARB approved.:confused3: Found an eBay supplier with no such issues, and they're on their way at about twenty bux apiece less than the local Kubota dealer gets for his.:D

Happy birthday, Buckeye, and sorry to hear about the GDO hassles. My half horsepower genie screw drive GDO bit the dust about three weeks ago or so, and I have been trying to get the Genie people to help me out with it.

The Motor Drive unit does have a lifetime warranty, but I bought it nine years ago, and do you think I could find the original VISA Chit? Not on your life. But, after several phone calls, Genie finally agreed to except an alternate method of proving that I was the original purchaser. And the good news is, that they wrote to me yesterday and told me they are going to give me a new motor head!

On the other hand, it is so old that they had told me earlier they have no parts, so we’ll see what they are able to pull out of a hat.

Meanwhile, rain rain rain today, and yesterday was the big federal election here in Canada. The liberals won again, but this time with a minority government. Interesting times ahead.

Good morning! It's a very nice 52° here with ow humidity. Our forecast high is 80° and sunny this afternoon.

Yesterday morning's predawn rain was only 1/2" but, we're glad to have it.

I got three more live oaks trimmed up yesterday and continued to build another burn pile. This one is #9 but .... our burn ban continues.

Two evenings w/o baseball but .... tonight's the night. TAKE IT BACK!

RNG ... glad to hear your tractor noise ... was no more than an oopsie. Have a good trip. Can you get the EZ-Pour Hi-Flo Replacement Spouts in Cali? Mine will empty a 5 gallon gas container, into the Polaris Ranger, in about 30 seconds.

BEF ... Happy birthday!

Thomas ... you've settled into retirement well.

Drew ... travel safely on your way home.

WNG ... squirrels are just rats ... with good PR.

Hope everyone has a safe and productive day.

Prayers to all.

Amazon won't sully their delicate hands with them, but again, eBay and/or Google to the rescue.

Tractor supply had them on sale for $9.99 about three years ago. I bought 4 of them. The regular flow versions were $13.99 then, as I recall.

My High flow nozzles are one piece, about 14" long. I notice the current ones have an extension.

Edit: they show up on my Amazon? Is Amazon different in Cali?

50°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 60° today.

Been fighting off a pending cold for the past few days, and it finally caught up with me on Sunday. It's just a minor head cold, but it's killing me with bad/limited sleep. Starting to get sore muscles from coughing as well. The typical vitamin C overload didn't cut it this time. Eating cough drops like candy today.

Happy Birthday, BEF.

I absolutely despise those new gas cans. Not only are they ridiculously slow, they leak. I've already replaced the spouts on mine once, and last time I filled them the new spouts both cracked when tightening them. Garbage. Need to start searching the black market for cans that actually work.

66 and cloudy, sprinkles early, heavier rain after noon. Doctor appointment later, car club meeting then home to watch The Great Pumpkin!
Happy birthday BEF!
Ellen’s dad came through the triple bypass with flying colors. Of course he’s sore, but overall doing well. He’s amazing for 83.
I’ve been washing clothes this morning, not my favorite job, but I’m happy to be able to again. I went to my grandsons baseball game last night, his skills at 7 are amazing. He has one more fall game then on to indoor soccer and basketball.
Prayers for all.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

A mostly cloudy 37ºF for today’s low; 50ºF and mostly cloudy presently; and I anticipate increased cloudiness and rain showers late today with high temperature in the mid50ºF’s. Another night waking up coughing and soaking wet with sweat in a 60ºF bedroom. O2 stats were decent @95% both before and after Dog Walk #1. Then eating oatmeal for breakfast I broke out sweating again in a 70ºF kitchen. My blood sugars are really decent. I have no clue what is driving this??? I hope it’s not another pending bout with pneumonia again. I see my neurologist tomorrow.

Lou- Thanks for the link. We’ve been to and have stayed at B&B’s in Saratoga Springs. We’ve enjoyed our stays there; quite a few decent restaurants.

“…. Colors here are past there peak.”- Thomas Same here with +50% of leaves now on the ground. I see one more mowing exercise with the rider and grass/leaf catcher. And yes I too am back to body checks for ticks. And I thought ticks went dormant in temps <45ºF’s.

David- A creative use of your backhoe. Thanks for sharing.

“… Kyle, news is saying no deaths, not sure about injuries.”- Bruce That’s my understanding so far as well. Thanks for the +’s. I always have neuropathy stuff going on, sometimes worse than others; but I can not let it stop me from trying to stay active. Being inactive is far worse.

BEF- Good luck dealing with the STD and LTD bureaucratic nonsense, I hope that you get your router issues resolved, and I hope you have a decent birthday today.

Eric- Thanks for sharing your sunrise picture. Sunrise is my favorite time of day.

Billy- Thanks for the laugh. :D

Drew- I wish you a pleasant return trip home.

“… I absolutely despise those new gas cans. Not only are they ridiculously slow, they leak. I've already replaced the spouts on mine once, and last time I filled them the new spouts both cracked when tightening them. Garbage. Need to start searching the black market for cans that actually work.”- Paul That’s been my experience as well and my feelings are similar. I hope that you shake your cold and cough. Last night I had herb tea with lemon, grated fresh ginger, and honey and then had a cup of chicken stock with the same additions.

Randy- I am happy to read that FIL’s surgery went as planned, and you remain active, and had the opportunity to see your grandson baseball game.

I hope that everyone is having a manageable day today.

My + thoughts and prayers,

I don't use cans for much just one lawn mower and the sander engine and a can for 2 strokes,
but I don't even bother messing with the spouts I just take the caps off and pour directly into the tank or into a funnel.
I'm usually parked on gravel and what tiny bit spills evaporates quickly.

/ Good morning!!!! #100,937
My 2 stroke fuel mix, and my rider's jerry cans have those :censored: CARB spouts. My tractor's diesel fuel always runs through my Mr. Funnel water/fuel separating filter/funnel. Sooner or later all my spillage stains disappear.

Time to move some firewood before the rain begins. Right now from the looks of Doppler it's virga "rain" here.

Good morning to all! Low of 28, 62 expected for the high. Just 'breezy' today with 15-20 mph winds. No precip is forcasted for the next week, not good, we are really dry.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BEF!

Randy, please forward our thoughts and prayers to Ellen and her dad. Hopefully a speedy recovery!

Drew, stay safe on your return trip, hopefully ahead of the weather changes.

The son was out at daybreak picking up all the cardboard and styrofoam that blew out of the trailer. We are now going to get that to the dump before the wind makes its presence known again.

Today's agenda will include the dump run, returning with a few yards of forest mulch (it's free so why not make the trip more worthwhile). We will unload that then make a return trip with a trash load, again returning with another load of mulch.

If I'm not too beat up after that, we'll probably bring some more stuff over from 'the big house'. There's only a few boxes of papers, old pictures, and storage bins full of holiday decorations. If it doesn't happen today, maybe tomorrow. That was the best thing about this move....didn't have to happen all at once!

RNG, sorry to hear about your troubles finding a solar contractor. Every time I go into a HD, Lowes, or Costco, I am approached by some sales guy pitching their system. When I tell them where we live and what kind of system that I want, the reply is either "we don't go out to that area" or "we don't do that kind of system". I have resolved myself to do my own when the time comes. Of course you have far more regulations out there prohibiting that.... It's a real shame that the technology has improved, but it's still so difficult to achieve using it.

Everyone have a great day! Prayers out for all.

/ Good morning!!!! #100,939
Jay, you posted while I was typing. I sure hope you are able to get past your respiratory issues.... Not a good time of the year to come down with something. I know we are both "stubborn" when it comes to dealing with health issues, but please, please, don't let it get too far... Take care my friend!

Edit: they show up on my Amazon? Is Amazon different in Cali?

When I tried to buy the cans yesterday at Amazon, at checkout time I got the following message, Rick:

"There was a problem with some of the items in your order (see below for more information):
No-Spill 1450 5-Gallon Poly Gas Can (CARB Compliant)"

That happens with chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, and now, apparently, with things Amazon thinks violate some Kalifornia law or regulation.:confused3:

I just now checked the spouts you linked, and didn't get snagged, maybe because the description said they were water spouts?:confused2: Maybe if I ordered No-Spill water cans, I could get them from Amazon? But why pay more at Amazon when the eBay vender had 'em for ten buxs less with free shipping and no sales tax?
