Jay, I think the pharmaceutical companies and the meat industry have gotten together to combat people who want to eat healthy they now are trying to make a psych diagnosis of Orthorexia. From a professional point of view, what do you think of this?

Don- That's s new one for me. I did some research and could not find it in the Bible of Pscho-labels (DSM), but I did find this on the internet: "The term Orthorexia Nervosa is not officially recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or by the American Psychiatric Association as a classified eating disorder; however, it was coined by American physician, Steven Bratman, M.D. in 1997. "- MindComp. Based on the crazy way the psych "professionals" change opinions and labels it may end up in some future "Revised" DSM edition. There are quite a few "recognized" eating disorders already; one more label could add a few more pages to an already oversized book. There is no definition for "normal" in any of the psych literature excepting the professionals' resumes. BTW- I agree it appears to be another marketing ploy by big businesses to change consumers' perceptions about good and bad and influence behavior to increase sales. Maybe Velveta will become a health food

Lou- FYI: Eye disease in American Goldfinches - FeederWatch. And yes, Wifey and I will use binoculars for ID'ing birds. It's too bad about your driveway slope. We are fortunate to have a fairly level driveway; one of the few relatively level spots on this property.

I got a notice from Delmarva Power that it’s an energy conservation day, so I conserved most of mine.

Lou- FYI: Eye disease in American Goldfinches - FeederWatch. And yes, Wifey and I will use binoculars for ID'ing birds. It's too bad about your driveway slope. We are fortunate to have a fairly level driveway; one of the few relatively level spots on this property.

Thanks for location clarification. One thing about the NE is there always a decent rock crop to harvest each Spring. One needs to become "creative" as to how to manage the harvest.

Thunderstorm underway. Ran us in.

Today was a day for firsts:
- first black snake of the year...right on our porch step with a big bulge in its middle...we're hoping it's not one of our front yard chipmunks.
- first day it hit 80s
- first Zero turn mowing of the year
- first tick found (on my wife)
- first t-storm, strong enough to knock out the news on satellite.

Don, since you didn't win (or admit you won ) the Yanmar, how about winning a hybrid RAV4 XSE AWD? Just got a mailer from our Toyota dealer with a coupon to enter the giveaway (sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, Plano TX).

Goldfinches come to our feeders all winter...sometimes we'll have 3 dozen...never noticed any eye problems...and we use binocs. The males are starting to turn back bright yellow now.

Yellow and red finches winter here all year long as well as blue birds red birds never noticed eye problems and ours are in full color. No snakes yet but stink bugs and lady bugs are out, frogs done mating

Whoever said that to put the backhoe on my tractor only takes about 15 minutes is so full of 'it'. It took two of us 2 hours to get the thing on. I am glad that I don't need to take it off until November 1 at the earliest.

On Wednesday I am going to disappear from the web for three days of boring meetings down south. The only good thing is that I will get the new batteries for the boat at the same time. I could buy the batteries up here and pay the extra co$t for the shipping, but I am too cheap for that. The powers that be want over $500.oo for 1 Odyssey AGM 34M-PC1500 Battery that will cost me $352.oo + 13% tax at the warehouse in Woodbridge, ON. About 45 minutes away from the town the meetings are being held in.

Are EMS people hard to employ in SE NM?

Pretty much a shortage nationwide. Low pay, long hours, high stress, thankless job. We have been shorthanded / understaffed for the past 6 years. Mandatory overtime was in place for 3 1/2 years (recently lifted), but plenty still available. We are the biggest system and highest paid in the whole state. Doesn't matter...still short staffed. The company will pay your full time salary (while you are full time student), pay your full tuition for a degree program, and in turn you are contracted to work for them for 2 years. That's a pretty good deal....still only get 5-6 people sign up each year!

I have several friends who are EMS Techs @Houston Fire and work many of their days off for suburban county EMS groups.

EMS is like the military ..... a thankless, high stress, job ..... with crappy hours.
