Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 5:15AM. Partly cloudy skies this morning will become overcast during the afternoon. High 66F. Winds light and variable.
All I can say is that yesterday more than an inch of rain fell, since the weather station stopped reporting at noon and then fixed itself at 7:30PM. During that time several large thunder and lighting cells passed overhead, leaving puddles and ringing ears in their wake. I was on the back porch using the parts washer for one of them, it was very impressive.
You could always just let the cell phone ring, PJ, and say that the battery died.
Put new steering head bearings in the big RT touring bike yesterday, a job I'd been putting off as it likely involved removing most of the fairing. Found a way to do it by just pulling two panels, so not so bad. The old bearing grease had turned to glue and the races were Brinelled, both of which made for wonky handling. Got to try out two new bearing pulling tools, and both earned their keep once I figured out how they worked. Today I'll go for a short ride to fully seat the races and make a final adjustment to the bearing preload.
The sun did come out late in the day long enough to dry up some of the water under the van, so I used most of a can of Gunk cleaning off the oil that had been blown over the engine and transaxle. Today I'll get under there and do more cleaning with solvent and a rag. I'm wondering how much of what I thought was coming from the oil pan was really from the transaxle, maybe all of it? And I also think it would be a good idea to just change the oil in the transaxle instead of topping it up, as there were several parts, including one gear set, that were replaced during the rebuild and after 500 miles it is often a good idea to put in fresh oil in case the old stuff was contaminated with wear particles. Should probably do the same with the engine as well, since the block, crank, rods, and pistons were also all new.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend!
