I did. Three of them in fact. All top-of-the-line from their respective manufacturers, all dumb as a bag of hammers, and none of them could reliably climb up onto and down off of the various area rugs scattered around the house. And some became hopelessly tangled in the fringed tassels that adorn the edges. Sigh, I was really hoping to delegate my vacuuming to one of them.
The latest Dyson stick vacuums are getting pretty good reviews from what I've seen. And I've been very happy with my older ball model.
Wife bought one of those Sharp Ion robots about six months ago. I'd have to say ... it's just OK. It has trouble with rugs, it has trouble with some of the table legs in our living room, and it frequently gets stuck under the bedroom night stands. It also has some programming issues, as some days it starts as programmed, and other days not so much. Wife still likes it, though, as it cuts down on the amount of vacuuming she has to do to keep up with three dogs and two cats (and a long-haired husband
We also have a Dyson ball vacuum. I was initially unimpressed by its seemingly cheap plastic construction. However, it seems to be holding up well, and does a pretty thorough job. We replaced a dead Oreck canister vac with one of the Dyson canisters, and it seems pretty decent as well.
I grew up with a Mother who only bought Kirby vacuums, so I guess everything seems like cheap plastic these days.
