Minus 2 right now...high about 20.

Not much planned today...get beer and (maybe) wine), sweep the snow off the walks and back deck. We have a company Christmas Party tonight...not sure we're going though...

Hello All,

Low of 18 here this am, 22 right now. Expect more clouds than sun today- the impending winter storm is supposed to slide by here south of us. Thoughts going out to Virginia and Carolinas members for safety in the upcoming event and much successful tractor play in the resulting clean up!

Frank

Good Morning!!!! 45F @ 5:30AM. Mainly sunny. High 56F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

Welcome to the Good Morning!!!! thread, FAH.:welcome:

I feel the same way about those little pills, Drew. I'm up to three "forever" pills, and the two little ones are a terror when they drop. One is round and rolls a long way, the other is very hard and bounces like a rubber ball. If I make a mistake and get more than one into a compartment, there's no way other than tweezers to get the extra out unless I dump them all. I guess it could be worse; older members of my family have had almost a dozen pills a day to take. :confused2:

The oil leak on the truck turned out to be a loose oil filter. Never had that happen before, but it was obvious and an easy fix.

The gate opener, not so much. The fire melted the zip tie holding the radio receiver to the post, and all that was left was a melted lump of plastic with a wire stuck to it. Had to trace the wire back to where it connected on the controller board to figure out what it was. New one on order; it'll be at an Amazon locker in town on Sunday ready for pickup. Decided to use the battery out of the old blue BMW motorcycle to run the gate, as that bike isn't going anywhere for a while. Figured out which lead was connected to it and cut off the melted parts and still had enough length to reach. The leads to the solar panel and car sensor were OK, but I'll have to dig around to find out where the one to the key pad comes out of the ground. When I'm done with this, the trees around the gate are getting a serious pruning, and I may even take them down. It was the leaves on the ground and low branches that fueled the fire there. Probably go with steel pipe to replace the burned fence as well. Turns out all three posts burned, so between those and the battery box concrete, it might be worth getting out the backhoe attachment to get the concrete out of the ground.

While I was at the gate, the mail man dropped off the mail. Good to see him again, though he said he lost his house in Paradise. While he was there a beeper went off and the box that made the sound told him that all his days off are cancelled until further notice. He said there's a mountain of undelivered mail being held still for us Camp Fire evacuees, and more coming in by the minute due to the holidays. If I hadn't seen him the only clue I had mail would have been to look in the box, and I wonder how many of my neighbors won't remember to do that as it's been so long since there was a delivery.

If I have enough daylight today I'll get the tractor going and move some of the downed trees away from the driveway and down to the now empty wood lot. All the debris wood from the Saddle Fire two years ago was burned up leaving hardly any ash on the ground; that manzanita burns hot and very clean. There are enough trees down to replace most of the ten cords that were lost; all I have to do is add a bunch of Diesel #2, gasoline, bar oil, and sweat.

If it's not too windy today, I'll spray weed killer/pre-emergent on the area around the house to expand the fire safe zone. Grass and weeds are sprouting so fast that the deer can't keep up with them. Yes, the deer made it through the fire just fine, and they're the same ones that hang around all year. What a fire story they would tell if they could!

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Good morning to all! Not too bad outside this morning, low of 35°, going up to 45°. No snow for us, a little bit of freezing rain yesterday. The storm moved way south and is heading into Texas.

RNG, sounds like maybe life is heading towards at least a little bit of normalcy. Hope you have success getting the smoke smell out of the house. Seat time in the tractor is a good thing!:D

Ed, glad to hear the birthday went well.

Drew, have a good trip, be safe.

Everyone have a great weekend, getting ready to make the short road trip. Prayers out for all.

I don't know if I'm just getting used to the smell or it's this cold, but the smoky/spoiled food odor seems to be abating on it's own. That doesn't mean I'm done with my housekeeping, though.

It was 24° this morning not as cold as I thought it would be. Today is going to be in the mid 30's and partly cloudy.

I got everything done yesterday that I had on the list. Got wooden box painted and back in side by side. Also changed out the block heater. That went about like I expected but wasn't to bad.

Not sure what I'll be doing today.

LouNY ... The heater looked the same, I may have told him the wrong model number I thought I replaced it with. I did look in the block and didn't see anything I thought would be a problem.
I hope I remember to take my pills this morning.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
CWB.

Always said I would limit the pills I took to whatever fit in those little boxes. . . .
AMA wants me to take more and sleep most of the day. I chose door B. Even then I would like to get off modern medicine and try plant based, like CBD. I already take fish oil and turmeric-curcumin. Never found the shark stuff to help at all.

One less pill Drew.

According to a study that came out In August 2018 you can probably eliminate the fish oil pill.

A short video on the history of the studies of fish oil and probably the study why you started taking them.

Didn't take long for me to get off Fish Oil. My stomach told me after about a week that if I took another one it was going to regurgitate it. I now take Flaxseed.

Cleaned up my Trail Camera pictures yesterday. This must have the Sandhill Cranes last dance before they headed south.

Great photo Ron.

Mostly, glad you got the van running good again. RNG, hope you get the tractor going. Someone else was having mechanical troubles, I hope everyone gets their "stuff" running.

No shortage of aches and pains. Hope all of you hurting get better day by day.

Drew, hopefully, the power of the pen can still be mightier than the sword concerning your Audi. Take it easy on your foot.

I got my FEL's bucket cylinder repaired "on the cheap" on Thursday. I came home and installed it in the dark during a drizzle. I have one of those miner's LED head lights that I use often. The elastic band of the headlamp has about stretched out to it's max from age. I tied off a portion in a knot to take up the slack. I ended up buying 3 parts from JD, and having one of the o-rings in my huge collection at work. I might make a post in the Deere forum to explain further.

I wanted to get the tractor up and going before last night's big rain storm event....just in case. I've had to yank people out of the ditch and such...

We did have a lot of rain and runoff. Driving home, I had more than a few "white knuckle" moments where one side or the other would hit pooled water on the road. I hate that because it jerks the car in the respective direction. Also concerns me of oncoming drivers getting "jerked" towards me. Don knows how bad the hwy 21 road conditions get and the number of people that have hydroplaning accidents.

So it's chilly in the 40's, everything is absolutely soaked outside, so we are all going to have to call it an inside day. My daughter just made us breakfast tacos...yummy. I love Cholula's sauce. Not too spicy, and doesn't taste like vinegar. More like a bit of cayenne and red chili.

Farmer, hope the ABA treatments are going to help. Did your school help out any with them? Or insurance?

I'm thankful for the diverse mixing pot of people "with a lot of experience" here on GM. I consider you all friends, and frequently bring up your conversations to my family and co-workers often. Plenty of sage advice. Ron, interesting potato article. I've always liked Reader's Digest.
